The Director of Village Scholars provides strategic and operational leadership for HCVâs flagship cradle to career youth development initiative. Village Scholars operates across five pillars: Academic Support and Tutoring; Consistent Check Ins; College and Career Readiness; Year-Round Out-of-School Time Programming; and Family Support.
The Director owns measurable scholar and family outcomes. This leader ensures effective execution across pillars, strengthens staff accountability, and maintains a visible presence in programming spaces.
The Director supervises program staff and contracted educators. This role reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic and Operational Leadership
Provide overall leadership and direction for Village Scholars implementation
Maintain a visible and active presence in Village Scholars programming, building relationships with scholars and modeling HCV culture and expectations
Align staff under four operational areas: Academic, College and Career, Out of School Time, and Family Support
Oversee the Check and Connect system to ensure consistent scholar engagement and timely intervention
Establish consistent operating rhythms including supervision, scholar tracking reviews, cross pillar coordination meetings, and performance monitoring.
Ensure Village Scholars operates as one unified system of support rather than siloed initiatives.
Develop and manage strategic partnerships with schools, workforce organizations, postsecondary institutions, employers, and community based organizations to expand opportunities for scholars and families.
Represent Village Scholars in cross sector collaborations and coordinate closely with Community Schools leadership to ensure integrated student support
Contribute to organizational strategy, goal setting, and performance reviews as a member of the senior leadership team
Scholar Systems and Accountability
Oversee scholar recruitment, enrollment, onboarding, and retention systems.
Ensure one hundred percent of enrolled scholars receive consistent and documented check-ins.
Monitor Behavior, Attendance, and Grades data and lead timely intervention strategies.
Develop and implement early intervention protocols for disengaged youth.
Oversee data system utilization and scholar tracking systems in partnership with Data and Technology Manager.
Academic and Postsecondary Oversight
Manage relationships with contracted academic educators and ensure instructional quality.
Monitor GPA trends, credit accumulation, and attendance benchmarks.
Oversee postsecondary readiness, enrollment, and persistence efforts.
Strengthen partnerships with workforce development organizations and postsecondary institutions.
Out of School Time Programming
Lead HCVâs out-of-school time team to implement year-round after school and summer programming.
Regularly attend and engage in programming spaces to ensure quality, culture, and youth engagement
Ensure programming builds academic confidence, leadership development, career exposure, and youth voice.
Oversee enrichment initiatives including innovation, media, entrepreneurship, STEM, and youth led projects.
Monitor attendance, retention, and youth development outcomes.
Family Engagement
Oversee family programming, events, and structured supports aligned to scholar success.
Build authentic relationships with families through direct participation in events, programming, and communication efforts.
Ensure consistent communication practices with families.
Integrate family engagement strategies across academic and postsecondary efforts.
Staff Leadership and Development
Supervise program managers, coordinators, and educators.
Establish clear performance standards and accountability systems for direct reports.
Partner with the senior leadership team on hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management.
Build second level leadership capacity within Village Scholars.
Organizational Integration and Scale
Strengthen documentation, workflows, and operational systems to prepare Village Scholars for growth.
Identify workflow gaps and improve cross team coordination.
Collaborate with Finance and Data teams to align reporting and outcomes tracking.
Participate in HCV leadership team meetings to ensure strategic alignment.

This position requires Act 33 and Act 34 clearances.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelorâs degree required. Masterâs degree preferred in Education, Social Work, Youth Development, Public Administration, or related field
Minimum five years of leadership experience in youth development, education, or college and career readiness
Experience working in urban communities and with historically underserved youth populations of different ages.
Experience supervising staff
Experience managing program budgets and grant funded initiatives
Experience using data systems to drive program improvement and accountability.

Strong understanding of adolescent development and youth engagement
Comfortable building relationships with youth, families, schools, and community partners
Systems thinker able to align academic, postsecondary, OST, and family supports into one coordinated strategy
Skilled at execution, accountability, and performance management
Data driven with the ability to translate student metrics into intervention plans
Strong communicator with solid organizational and operational skills
Proficient in CRM systems, Google Suite, and data tracking tools
