About the Role
Kitsap Credit Union is hiring a full-time hourly Asset Recovery Specialist to work hybrid out of our East Bremerton location. This position is responsible for the successful return of credit union assets by working directly with members, vendors, internal staff, and attorneys. The Asset Recovery Specialist will review, track, and analyze loans gathering all data to elevate legal liability and financial loss to the credit union.

Principal Accountabilities
- Work independently and as a team with repossession and bankruptcy credits. Oversee repossession and bankruptcy status through effective communication, regular reporting, and accurate documentation of all collection efforts.
- Participate in preparing various monthly management reports.
- Complete applicable repossession paperwork ensuring compliance with federal and state repossession and collection laws; this includes keeping up to date on state by state legislation.
- Responsible for directing and managing the transport, maintenance, repair, sale and security of vehicle or other collateral based repossessions; may include filing claims with appropriate party’s insurance.
- Act as the primary insurance claims facilitator for Collateral Protection Insurance (CPI) and ensures pricing of repossessed vehicles is in fair market range.
- Negotiate and make decisions about pay offs, settlements, and modifications with vendors according to Kitsap Credit Union guidelines to minimize KCU loss.
- Initiate and collect all necessary data for legal suits, pending legal action including but not limited to repossession replevin suits, SKIP claims, and bankruptcies.
- Make recommendations based upon bankruptcy intentions/loan documents to determine whether outside legal counsel is required.
- Communicate with attorneys and trustees regarding all facets of bankrupt accounts.
- Prepare and file Proof of Claims, Reaffirmation Agreements, Motion for Relief of Stay, Plan Objections, Plan Confirmations, and Notice of Post-petition Fees.
- Review and work incoming bankruptcy mail and perform bankruptcy account maintenance. Communicate with member’s attorneys in an effort to generate income on secured accounts.
- Receive and audit attorney and vendor invoices for accuracy. Apply bankruptcy payments and liquidation of asset checks to accounts with high degree of accuracy.
- Provide training of new employees and/or department staff and cross training on internal repossession and bankruptcy processes.
Required Qualifications and Education
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2+ years of Special Credit (i.e., high-risk loans, problem credits) experience.
- 2+ years of progressive collections experience including post charge off, high risk, deficiency balances, and real estate collections.
- Comprehensive knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations surrounding repossession and bankruptcy law.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Persuasive and professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities, multi-task, and perform analysis on accounts.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
Supervisory Conditions
This position does not supervise others.
Working Conditions
This position will be required to work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, and, with or without reasonable accommodation is required:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a minimum of 75% of the time.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machines.
- Occasionally ascends/descends stairs.
- Constantly positions self in work environment.
- The person in this position frequently communicates with peers, supervisors, vendors and employees to exchange accurate information and answer questions.
- Must be able to detect objects at a distance.
- On occasion will move up to 20 pounds of office objects.
- Works in an indoor office environment but expected to attend meetings in buildings that require travel in outdoor weather conditions.
