DescriptionJob Description: The Billing Specialist is responsible for reviewing notes and submitting charges in the electronic medical record (EMR). They ensure that insurance companies and patients are billed accurately for services rendered to help to streamline WellStone’s healthcare reimbursement process.
What you'll be doing:
- Review all medical notes
- Enter appropriate service charge code in EMR
- Review Diagnosis to ensure that the medical diagnosis corresponds with the diagnosis in the EMR
- Receive calls from clients, answer questions clients may have, and review accounts with clients
- Take client payments over the phone
- Receive calls from staff regarding client insurance and balances
- May receive and post payments in EMR
- May post and/or adjust copays and deductibles after insurance has paid
- May review denied and rejected claims
- May reprocess or adjust denied and rejected claims
- May review and reprocess claims with errors
- Back up for insurance information input and insurance verification
- Complete other duties as assigned.

QualificationsWhat we're looking for:
- Advanced Education in Billing/Medical Coding
- Will consider relevant college courses if no degree
- Required 1-2 years’ experience as Medical Billing Coder
- Knowledge in mental health terminology, abbreviations, pharmacology and diagnosis
- Advanced knowledge in medical codes involving selection of the most accurate and descriptive code using CPT codes for billing of third-party resources
- Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and compliance standards
- Advanced knowledge of CMS regulations and fraud guidelines for professionals
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
