The Team
The Facilities and Custodial teams play a crucial role in supporting all aspects of the Oregon Humane Society. Through cross departmental communications and interactions, we ensure a safe and healthy environment for staff, volunteers, donors, the general public, and any and all vendors who find themselves on our ever expanding campus.
The Position
Custodians are responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and supporting the needs of the OHS Animal Shelter and medical facilities, grounds, and vehicles. All duties are performed according to established safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and department guidelines/standards. Other responsibilities include monitoring supplies needed for facility cleaning and general upkeep, and working as a collaborative team member paying close attention to details. All OHS staff members contribute to the stewardship of the organization’s mission and are expected to stay current on and understand issues related to animal welfare and OHS programs.
This is a part-time role 4 days/week, 5 hour shifts from 6pm - 11pm.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform all duties included in the weekly cleaning check list including: sweeping and mopping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing, spot cleaning, emptying trash, restocking, disinfecting high touch areas, and cleaning/ sanitizing restrooms throughout the facilities and at 8001 NE 14th Place upon request.

Sweep and mop all floors including the kennels, kennels foyer area, cat holding areas, and “staff only” hallways on first floor of facility.

Disinfect countertops, door handles, switch plates and other high touch areas. Stock paper towel dispensers, hand sanitizers, and hand soap dispensers at all appropriate employee work stations, sinks, restrooms, kennel areas, and break areas throughout the facility.

Clean windows and sills in front lobby, cat colony areas, and adoption areas on a daily basis. Clean window ledges in all conference rooms and clean window panels on outside of 2nd floor offices on a weekly basis.

Adhere to all OHS safety, training, animal and chemical handling, and transportation protocols in order to ensure that the shelter environment is safe for animals, the public, volunteers, and staff. Wear required clothing, identification, and safety garments/equipment as defined by OHS policies and procedures.

Work Environment Conditions & Physical Requirements
This position interacts and collaborates will all levels of the organization, including OHS staff, executive team members, donors, general-public, external vendors, volunteers, and supporters. Contact and communication is carried out through face-to-face, telephone and digital interactions. Excellent customer service skills are essential to success. Communication must be clear, understandable, professional and respectful in all circumstances.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift, move, restrain, guide, or manage an animal weighing up to 150 lbs. on a leash on an occasional basis.
