The Grants Specialist is responsible for identifying and qualifying funding opportunities to support programs of Empath Health and its affiliates. The position assists in the preparation of grant proposals for private and government funding including the writing of key sections in collaboration with program staff. The Grants Specialist uses internet research engines to identify key information on a funder’s financial capacity and philanthropic interests.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a primary resource on the research of potential private and government funding sources related to Empath Health and its family of programs.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive grant prospecting, tracking and managing database using Raiser’s Edge and other software as required.
- Assist in the development and submittal of grant proposals including writing key sections in collaboration with staff.
- Prepare and update, as needed, boiler plates sections for Empath Health and each affiliate.
- Assist with grants management duties including tracking deliverables, monitoring deadlines for fiscal and programmatic reports, submittal of grant reports and providing guidance on grant requirements to agency staff.
- Review and maintain agency profiles on Guidestar and other web-based charity review sites.
- Assist with other Department projects as directed by the Vice President.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in Human Services, Public Health or relevant field; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two or more years demonstrated experience in grant research and preparation preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
- Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of foundation research engines (e.g. Foundation Search) and Virtuous.
