The IJM Australia Advancement Office was established in 2014 to fuel IJM’s global mission by mobilising Australians’ resources and influence to protect people living in poverty from violence.
The Need
For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence by 2030, we are seeking Director of Philanthropy.
This position is based in Sydney, Australia and reports to the Chief Marketing & Partnerships Officer.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
• Lead, develop and manage the Philanthropy team to raise over $10million annually by 2030 (mid-level & majors gifts). This includes inputting to clear strategy and setting the objectives and priorities from this, along with building caseloads, setting targets and goals for the Relationship Managers within SP.
• Grow yourself and team in the Veritus approach to fundraising with mid /major donors. This includes implementing more donor-focused processes, clear accountability and targets for IJM staff and empowering donor partner management.
• Lead the Philanthropy team in cultivating new and existing relationships with donor partners supporters to increase funding levels due to accountability of mid /major /corporate segment revenue targets.
• Closely collaborate with the Director of Marketing & Communications to curate holistic supporter journeys and relevant segment needs such as compelling proposals and impact reporting.
• Develop the Philanthropy team members in communication skills that support their donor management, including 1:1 relationship development and public speaking.
• Be a leadership voice within the wider organization as an expert in relationship fundraising for mid /major relationships. Being consistent in sharing the value of fundraising to all.
Strategy & Knowledge Development & Implementation
• Develop in conjunction with the CMPO, the Philanthropy division planning and activities that are in alignment with organizational strategy. Responsibility to envision the Philanthropy team throughout the year.
• Build, manage, and monitor the Philanthropic & Foundations partnerships pipeline.
• Drive events and activities to achieve organisational goals including, but not limited to, major fundraising events, small gatherings, optimising constituent trips and 1:1 meeting’s.
• Formulate objectives for Philanthropy staff that align with the strategy and annual revenue goals.
• Speak into budget line items, both revenue and expenses, for the Philanthropy team.
Networking & Partnership
• Seek out and grow relationships/partnerships networks that directly benefit the organisation both financially (primarily) and relationally (integrated with financial).
• Drive ELT involvement in the philanthropy space, along with utilising senior IJM leaders in Australia and across the organization in relationships and speaking events where needed.
• Research and analyse mid-major donor capacity and potential and develop individual donor plans to double their giving by 2026.
• Grow the opportunity within Philanthropy and Foundation giving for IJM Australia
Communication
• Confident and clear communication with all levels of the organisation ie. Feeding information /input upwards OR disseminating & motivating through communication downwards.
• Strong focus on 1:1 meetings with donors to build relationship.
• Regular communication and feedback meetings with CMPO towards developing Best Practice for SP.
• Regular phone calls and meetings to maintain and develop mid-major relationships /partnerships.
• Build strong relationships with counterparts in other countries, particularly the US team, to facilitate information sharing and collaboration.
Documentation, Reporting & Data Management
• Proficient use of Salesforce in a donor management way with excellent admin hygiene for data entry and communication notes.
• Portfolio planning at the beginning of each year with regular analysis of reports for weekly and monthly goal setting, brought to the CMPO for update.
• Close monitoring of Philanthropy team members lead measures and tracking to goals /targets.
Events and Logistics
• Capitalise on organisational events to cultivate relationships with major donors.
• Keep abreast of relationship management practices from our Nth America team and awareness of products and events they release -ie. Cornerstone, Venture Capital etc
• Recruit & manage relationships for key events.
General tasks
• In support of IJM Australia’s values and our expression of a community of spiritual formation, participate in IJM’s rhythms of spiritual disciplines, including daily stillness, corporate prayer and devotions, quarterly prayer retreats, quarterly staff care check-ins with staff chaplain and individual annual days of solitude.
Requirements:
• Demonstrated success in senior fundraising /partnerships roles, with demonstrated growth of revenue for a non profit organisation
• A strong track record growing a Foundations portfolio
• Corporate and NFP experience valued
• Bachelor of Business, Marketing, Development (or equivalent)
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in successful business development type role, with non-profit major donor fundraising experience preferred
• Minimum of 3 year’s experience in managing a staff team
• Salesforce experience highly valued
• A demonstrated leadership capacity in management positions, including performance management of teams.
• Demonstrated skills in development of departmental strategy and budgeting.
