MD Product Strategy
Able is a product strategy and development studio. Able's vision is to build digital products that create a more inclusive and prosperous future for our people and partners (what we call clients). Our teams consist of exceptional Software Engineers, Program Managers, Product Managers and Designers, and all-around company builders.
Able is seeking a full-time permanent Managing Director, Product Strategy to join our remote team. This role will oversee the Product Strategy and Design disciplines within Able and will be part of our Executive Leadership Team (ELT), reporting directly to the CEO.
Our Story
Over the past several years, Able has grown immeasurably. We’ve also grown in the type of company that we are:
Chapter 1: We were founded in 2013 as a product and engineering hub for a portfolio of early-stage start-ups. We grew up as an in-house/external hybrid shared services model. That allowed us to hone our skills and establish our operational and cultural foundation.
Chapter 2 : In 2019 we began to expand our vision. We began to grow outside of our inset partner base. We had good initial success meeting new partners, kicking off new relationships, and delivering high-value work.
Chapter 3 : We are now in the next phase of a new chapter, an expansion of the ambition of Chapter 2. Our strategy for growth centers around two audiences:
- Venture Capital. VC firms are looking for trusted product and technology solutions to distribute seamlessly across their portfolios at scale. The founders at their portfolio companies are looking for capabilities that can accelerate their businesses' go-to-market time, while minimizing cost and risk.
- Private Equity. PE firms are looking for trusted solutions that can catalyze growth for their portfolio companies at scale. The leaders of those companies are looking to leverage technology to unlock growth from their organizations.
We are looking for a leader who can inspire both of these segments with strategic product thinking to deliver business outcomes. This leadership role will provide unique value for our partners to drive sustainable growth for Able.
Profile & Skillset
Commercial Acumen
You have a demonstrated track record working with clients to grow high value partnerships.
- Shaping partnerships. Our service set is broad and our partners don’t always know what to hire us for. You have a keen ability to spot the needs in our partner’s business, and align it to a value set that Able can deliver. You can articulate both precisely and empathetically to make it easy for the partner to buy.
- Managing partnerships. Our value creation doesn’t end when we sign the contract, it begins. You have a track record of working with clients to ensure on-going value creation, and adaptive partnership definition that deliver value to our partner’s business and to Able’s.
Product Strategy
You are a seasoned practitioner of product thinking. You’ve taken products to market, from definition, through build, through commercialization and maintenance. You think innovatively about product opportunities and can flex your thinking across user needs, market opportunities, and technical strategy.
Management and Leadership
You have built and developed high performing teams. You are a great manager, in terms of managing individuals, and – perhaps most importantly – managing teams. You are seasoned at creating a vision for a time, implementing it to create value for the individuals and clients, and managing it to adapt to the changing needs of the business. The result is a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
You are an experienced member of company executive teams. You have a track record of building high performing partnerships with your functional counterparts: Engineering, Program Management, and Business Development. You can help shape our company strategy to elevate our go to market strategy.
Your Responsibilities
1. Help Able grow and expand in our market.
Our partners—and future partners—need real product strategy expertise. How to align product-market fit. How to design a product suite that delivers business results. How to use available capital to maximize returns. How to build products that users will love. Effective thinking on questions like these will attract and retain partners as we deliver indispensable value.
2. Build trusted partner relationships
Work with our partners to develop high value product strategic plans. Manifest those plans into Able commercial plans to balance value creation among the partner, Able, and our people.
3. Craft and implement a vision for the discipline.
Able’s go to market positioning is becoming clearer. We need a vision for the Product Strategy team that supports it to create unique value to our partners.
4. Build and mature the team to deliver on the vision.
The team is currently ten strong Product Management and Product Design individuals. We need a leader who can inspire and unify them, grow the team, and become a whole greater than the sum of its parts.
What we’re looking for
- 5+ years leading a Product Strategy / Product Management / Product Design team
- Demonstrated experience leading product organizations that deliver business results
- Vision and leadership abilities to inspire and mobilize talent
- Innate ability to inspire partners to think differently about their product approach
- Dynamic and ambitious approach to company building, for Able and for our partners’ organizations
Your day-to-day
- Strategic development. Articulating the vision and value proposition for the Product Strategy and Design team, and implementing it with our team and partners.
- Working with partners. You will have a focused portfolio of partners to help steer, inspire, and grow.
- Business development. You will meet with prospects to evaluate the opportunity, identify ways for Able to create value, and mobilize teams and work to close deals.
- Team development. Make the Product Strategy and Design team great, by facilitating the growth of existing team members and hiring new ones.
- Company building. Able is a high ambition, high growth team. This role sits on the Executive Leadership Team to help steer the future of our company.
This position is 100% remote within the United States. You must be authorized to work in the United States.
Minimal travel within the US may be required for this role.
The base salary range for this position is $230,000 to $250,000 USD.
