GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Bright Futures Afterschool program serves approximately 175, K-8th grade students enrolled in our partnered DeKalb County School sites. Program activities will focus on homework support, interactive CORE subject and enrichment activities, and literacy tutoring. The Class Instructor will support all after sites as needed throughout the week of programming that will include driving 1 agency vehicle to transport program participants as requested and serving as a substitute teacher during program hours by instructing 1 classroom of refugee youth and supporting fellow afterschool teachers in daily program running.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage one assigned classroom of elementary or middle school aged students as well as AmeriCorps members, volunteers, and tutors if assigned to do so.
- Support the daily operation of assigned site including supporting fellow teachers, ensuring collection of all daily documentation, handling minor issues, etc.
- Implement grant required youth literacy (ESOL), youth development, and academic curriculum in assigned classroom in collaboration with site AmeriCorps members.
- Administer standards of positive behavior support and discipline for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of all students and address student issues and conflicts appropriately as needed.
- Ensure maintenance, security, and accountability of all Youth Program supplies, equipment, and property at the school site.
- Submit daily and weekly site reports to Senior Youth Coordinator.
Attend trainings, events, and meetings for the New American Pathways Youth Program, occasionally outside of regular hours if mandatory.
- Report any suspected cases of child abuse and child neglect and refer children to Lead Teacher and Senior Youth Coordinator.
- Follow the expectations outlined in the New American Pathways employee and afterschool program handbook in order to create a safe, welcoming environment where all clients feel safe and important.
- Assist Senior Youth Coordinator with administrative tasks as assigned

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
- Clean driving record with more than 3 years’ experience driving in the U.S.
- Must have valid Georgia driver’s license with up-to-date insurance coverage
- Comfortable with driving 15 passenger bus. No special license required.
- At least 1 year of teaching (formal or informal) youth under the age of 18
- Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to effectively multitask.
- Good time management and problem-solving skills
- Commitment to the organization’s mission to help refugees and Georgia thrive.
- Submit to a criminal background check.
- Ability to work with a wide diversity of individuals and be sensitive to all cultures, ethnicities, and religious backgrounds.
- Flexible and able to work with others in a fast-paced environment and under a variety of circumstances.
- Ability to advocate on behalf of refugee youth.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software
COMPENSATION
This is a Part-Time hourly position. The salary range for this position is $17-$20 per hour. Employee has the option to contribute to 401(k).
