Position: Senior Manager, Justice & Opportunity
Reports to: Vice President, Justice & Opportunity
Position Overview:
The Senior Manager of Justice & Opportunity will act to support the successful design and implementation of UWNYC’s criminal justice initiatives, with a specific focus on the Atlas program launched in partnership with the NYC Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS). UWNYC, as prime vendor, is committed to implementing Atlas, a portfolio of initiatives grounded in evidence-based practices, to achieve improved public safety and community well-being across New York City. The Senior Manager will work under the direction and supervision of other Justice & Opportunity staff (VP, AVP, Director) in executing the Atlas program models, across the various initiatives that are part of Atlas. The Senior Manager will assist with hiring of staff, conduct site visits, execute written communication to Atlas CBOs and partners, support program data collection and evaluation, and lead logistical planning for convenings and trainings. The Senior Manager will also work across the other ONS initiatives, including the Mayor’s Action Plan (MAP), to liaise with the UWNYC grants team across Finance and Legal/Administration to support contract management and grant(s) compliance for UWNYC partners.
Under the oversight of the AVP of Justice & Opportunity UWNYC, who in turn will report to the VP of Justice & Opportunity:
Assist with Program Development and Implementation to successfully implement Atlas initiatives.
Work with Atlas partners and stakeholders to address challenges to help advance mission.
Create reports and evaluations for stakeholders and Atlas partners to help operationalize the work.
Assist with project management to ensure quality improvement and quality control process in all stages of Atlas program development and implementation.
Assist with providing clarity around goals and priorities for Atlas providers.
Provide administrative support around ONS initiatives’ contract management and grant(s) compliance to the AVP of Justice & Opportunity, Finance and Legal/Administration teams as needed.
Justice & Opportunity is a new unit and UWNYC will look to the Senior Manager to collaborate and execute key strategies and objectives, collect, and analyze metrics and impact goals, and implement operational & organizational structures to enhance cross-functional collaboration around justice initiatives. This unit is essentially in “startup” mode and requires an entrepreneurial, self-motivated individual who is comfortable and inspired by supporting a new unit.
Primary Responsibilities:
Cross-Functional Alignment:
As directed, provide capacity building, community building, and technical assistance to CBOs / subcontractors across the ONS portfolio.
As directed, work closely with Transformation & Learning team to measure program goals, strategies, and outcomes, and ensure continuous learning and improvement for the ONS programs, where applicable.
As directed, work closely with Finance and Legal/Administration staff to ensure procurement, contract compliance, and payment to ONS CBOs / subcontractors; and help develop and implement internal mechanisms to support this work.
As directed, work with Resource Development team to provide data, anecdotal information, and success stories to support fundraising opportunities.
Support administrative tasks and logistics for the Atlas Innovation Fund.
As directed, collaborate with Marketing & Communications team to develop Justice & Opportunity materials and collateral, execute social and traditional media, manage logistical planning for photo and video shoots for the Atlas initiative.
External Relations:
Help support day-to-day relationship with ONS, working closely with their ONS leadership, program staff, contracting and finance staff to ensure program success.
Help manage relationship with New York City Criminal Justice Agency (CJA), Evidence-Based Associates (EBA), and other partners as well as CBOs/ providers to ensure Atlas initiatives are operating smoothly.
Help support relationships with model experts and support Atlas CBOs with on-the-ground technical assistance and capacity building to ensure model fidelity, lead convenings and trainings.
Help manage relationships and secure due diligence documents for ONS CBOs to ensure contract execution and grant(s) compliance, in collaboration with the UWNYC Finance and Legal/Administration staff.
Program Operations:
Assist in managing technical tools (such as the Atlas Engagement Database) to provide the highest level of customer service for Atlas partners and attention to detail.
Assist logistical planning for ONS CBO and/or subcontractor convenings, trainings, site visits, and events, including but not limited to the Peers Engagement Education and Resource Support (PEERS) events as part of the Atlas initiative.
Assist in meetings and convenings of external stakeholders across the ONS portfolio by building and setting agendas, developing meeting materials, liaising with invitees and attendees, and ensuring follow up.
Help support ONS programs and grant(s) compliance and outcomes measurement.
Help support new pieces of Atlas work as they arise, including a city-wide crisis team.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
Position prefers a Master’s in Social Work, and requires a bachelor’s degree, preferably in criminal justice, community engagement, or other related field; at least two years of related experience or equivalent of education and experience.
Understanding of criminal justice system, stakeholders, agencies, and providers; context within New York City preferred.
Experience with large-scale program implementation.
Experience with staffing and hiring programs.
Strong verbal and written communications with exceptional attention to detail.
Recognition of the importance of interdepartmental coordination and communication.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and strong ability to build partnerships. Ability to both work independently and be a team player.
Excellent writing, editing, verbal, and presentation skills.
Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and results.
Demonstrated experience building, leading, and mentoring a team of program specialists, both internal and external.
Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills.
Management skills, including the ability to manage budget priorities.
