JOB SUMMARY: The Annual Giving and Direct Marketing Officer (AGDMO) is responsible for the design and implementation of an annual fundraising program, with efforts directed toward ensuring a broad base of financial support to achieve a goal of $2 million. This includes development, production management and execution of integrated fundraising appeals and operational strategies related to all aspects of the annual giving program, including new donor acquisition, direct mail, digital appeals, donor renewal efforts, monthly giving, employer-matching gift programs, and workplace giving.
The position partners with the agency’s Communications and Marketing team on branding, messaging, and communication of the organization’s vision utilizing digital marketing and leveraging social media promotion/advertising for fundraising development. The AGDMO will utilize their creative writing skills for fundraising and stewardship initiatives.
The AGDMO will provide expert knowledge on Annual Giving and Direct Marketing fundraising and experience working with donor data systems, specifically The Raiser’s Edge and Luminate systems for audience segmentation, coding of appeals, creation of donation pages, scheduling of solicitations, and tracking and reporting on campaigns. The AGDMO will oversee an annual budget in line with agency priorities and successfully implement strategic plans and budgets to meet established goals and
objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct Mail and Digital Fundraising (gifts under $1,000).
Responsible for the full scope of design, messaging, and implementation of a multichannel direct mail and digital fundraising program including audience segmentation and codes in The Raiser’s Edge and Luminate, draft and schedule appeals, create donation pages and email schedules in Luminate, develop tracking and reporting, and acknowledgements. Also responsible for the coordination and project management of direct mail and digital marketing vendors.
Responsible for efforts to retain, recapture and upgrade monthly donors including effective communication and stewardship strategy for these donors utilizing direct mail and email appeals. Oversees donor segmentation, data capture, and hygiene for monthly donors, in back-end systems audit and analysis.
Administers all workplace giving programs including Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) and United Way. Works with Finance and Donor Services teams to ensure timely and accurate reporting on campaign results and donor giving.
Designs and implements a cost-effective annual giving development program with an appropriate level of quality and return on investment. Prepares an annual written work plan including with key performance measures and budget for all annual fund activities. Partners with Donor Services team members to create an annual coding plan for tracking fundraising appeals, reviews and troubleshoots gift entries, and maintains a shared annual schedule of appeals across all channels. Fields incoming communication from donors and potential donors in a professional, compassionate, and timely manner. Prepares quarterly reports for the CDO for meetings of the Board of Directors and Development and Communications Committee.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree is required in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field.
- At least 5 years of progressively productive experience related to direct response and annual giving fundraising experience.
- At least 2 years of managing digital fundraising strategy, as well as experience with data and analytics tools.
- A demonstrated history of gifted writing.
SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:
- In-depth knowledge of the production, testing, and delivery of emails through a constituent relationship management program.
- Experience writing for direct mail, email, and social media for a faith-based organization while articulating a clear voice that can also reach a non-religious audience.
- Deep knowledge of donor data systems, specific experience necessary with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge, Raiser’s Edge NXT, and Luminate systems.
