General Function
The Day Camp Unit Lead will be responsible for the supervision, implementation, and development of activity plans for a group of children, including assisting in the child’s social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive development.
Education/Experience/Training/Certifications
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists in overall camp management
- Serves as a role model for all youth participating in the day camp program
- Ensures a safe and nurturing environment by attending to the needs of campers at all times
- Assumes equal responsibility of general housekeeping tasks. This includes bagging trash, campsite cleanup, and bus cleanup
- Establishes and maintains a positive relationship with all coworkers, YMCA staff, YMCA members, program participants and the general public
- Consciously creates a climate in camp to foster the goals and objectives of the YMCA
- Responsible for lesson plan development (weekly) and implementation of the weekly plans with a group of children
- Directly supervises day camp counselors and Jr. counselors, and leads program activities throughout the day
- Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor
Abilities & Skills

Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.

Ability to plan, lead and participate in all physical activities

Ability to sit and stand from a seated position on the floor when interacting with children.

Capability to be outside participating for the majority of the day.

Ability to Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical situations and behavior management, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
