About
SACH
CHRI, in partnership with the United States Agency for
International Development (USAID), has established the Sustainable Action for
Climate and Health (SACH) Initiative in India. The aim is to establish and
support planning & implementation of activities for healthcare facilities,
workplaces and communities towards climate change and health outcomes. The
initiative brings together diverse stakeholders including local governments,
corporations, development organizations, academic institutions, community-based
organization, donors and philanthropic organizations, healthcare facilities,
and other relevant organizations.
Responsibilities:
Essential skills
and experience
The Public
Health Specialist- Climate and Health will work in
close coordination with MSU playing a crucial role in strengthening
surveillance system, capacity building of key stakeholders on climate and
health and creating awareness and demand generation for climate health services.
Key
responsibilities include:
·Providing
technical assistance to BMC on all program aspects of Metropolitan Surveillance
Units, including private sector engagement and innovative tech solutions.
·Conduct
gap assessment of the existing disease surveillance system and develop plans
for improving key indicators.
·Facilitate
the support for activities and coordination between surveillance teams
including epidemiologists, medical officers, surveillance officers, data
managers, microbiologists, and lab technicians for accelerating improvements in
the area.
·Undertake
capacity building of health care work force on climate influenced diseases and
carbon emission calculation tools.
·Develop
operational guidelines, tools, checklists, learning resource packages and the
other necessary resource materials for training and capacity building of health
workers on key aspects of public health surveillance.
·Undertake
sensitization of community-based structures like JAS and MAS on impact of
climate change on health.
·Develop
and write technical documents, such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),
guidelines and research material on climate and health including strengthening
disease surveillance.
·Support
in other relevant activities as per program requirements- such as outbreak
investigations, timely collection, compilation, and analysis of
surveillance data.
·
·Perform
other duties as assigned by the supervisor from time to time, for the smooth
functioning of the project and for the achievement of project/ organizational
goals.
Functional
Competencies:
·Good
knowledge and sound understanding of the technical as well as programmatic aspects.
·Strong written and oral communication skills in English,
Hindi and Marathi.
·Proficiency in
·Proficiency in writing technical and programmatic
documents such as operational guidelines, assessment reports, training
materials, program reports etc.
·Direct experience of independently liaising with
government health functionaries, city level administrators and other
development partners.
·Data analysis, data visualization, and analytical
thinking skills
·Ability
to work with a team of professionals from diverse backgrounds and working with
government and non-government agencies.
·Ability
to handle a variety of assignments under pressure of deadlines.
·Microsoft Office computer skills, proficiency in
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
·Ability to travel up to 50% of his/her time.
·MBBS/BDS/
BAMS/ BHMS will be essential with preference to those with master’s in public
health (MPH), Diploma in Public Health (DPH) or Post graduation in Health
Management.
·5-7
years of experience of working with government programs and systems for large
scale public health programs especially health systems strengthening
interventions.
·
·Understanding
public health surveillance or climate health is desirable.
·Experience
of working in a similar role or at agencies like CDC, WHO etc. will be an added
advantage.
