General Function
The Entry Level Swim Instructor shadows and assists with instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.
Education/Experience/Training/Certifications
- At minimum, some high school level education (over 16+ years of age)
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification and Emergency Oxygen from Red Cross
- Obtains YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent at first certification course offered by YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit after hire.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Shadows and prepares swimming lessions according the YMCA guidelines
- Builds authentic relationships with students and parents
- Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules as appropriate
- Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor
Abilities & Skills
- Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
- Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
