Ride Operator - Train [Part-Time]

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
The Rides Operator performs various tasks related to the safe operation of the Zoo Train and provides Awesome Guest Service. The Zoo Rides Operator is also required to perform minor maintenance related to inspection of the rides before each trip and effectively communicate any issues with staff.
As a Ride Operator for Trains, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Approach each guest with an authentic greeting within 60 seconds upon entering the Train.
- After every guest interaction, thank them and ensure every guest leaves satisfied with their Train experience.
- Ensure all opening and closing cleaning procedures are complete for all operating trains.
- Operate leaf blowers, steam cleaners, and pressure washers when needed.
- Ensure exterior areas of trains, including the sitting, loading, and surrounding areas, are clear of any trash or debris.
- Report any unsafe conditions to leadership and maintenance.
- Monitor rider safety and take necessary measures to ensure rider’s behavior does not endanger themselves, Zoo employees, or other passengers.
- Perform daily safety runs of trains before opening to guests.
- Ensure each guest meets rider safety requirements before loading trains.
- Assist guests with mobility issues with getting on and off the trains.
- Ensure all opening and closing pre-operations and safety logs are completed for each train daily.
- Adhere to all policies set forth by San Antonio Zoo.
- Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside the Zoo, showing hospitality to all.
- Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and the animals we protect.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:
- IRT certification is required (training provided on-site)
- Six (6) months of theme park or hospitality industry is preferred.
- Six (6) months customer services industry is preferred.
- Ability to lift to 60 lbs.
- Ability to relate effectively with the public, especially young children, and older adults.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age or older with a clean driving record for vehicle operation.
- Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screen.
We enjoy year-round operation for all staff and must be available day, nights, weekends, and occasional special after-hour assignments.
