Our team helps these heroes rebuild their lives by providing support for personal, individualized resources, and advocacy. We are looking for a Head Cook to oversee our kitchen responsibilities. The position is scheduled for Monday - Friday 6:00am - 3:00pm.
Hourly rate $17.00 - $20.00 depending on experience
JOB SUMMARY:Performs a variety of food preparation tasks, including preparing and serving breakfast and lunch, and preparing dinner for up to 76 residents five nights/week. Plans and manages the kitchen in the procurement, production, and preparation of all food for residents in a sanitary work environment, which conforms to all standards and regulations.
JOB DUTIES:
- Inventories, orders, and restocks food and kitchen supply items, while adhering to budget requirements.
- Responsible for insuring that MANA House residents have nutritious, healthy meals, in compliance with VA and standard national guidelines on nutrition.
- Interfaces with kitchen inspectors – Veterans Administration, Maricopa County, and City of Phoenix by inspecting food preparation areas such as –equipment and work surfaces and serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices.
- Insures that food services policies are in compliance with requirements of inspecting agencies.
- Maintains accurate kitchen logs for inspections.
- Creates weekly menus.
- Provides oversight, and guidance to volunteers, donors and supporters for food donations, kitchen equipment, and kitchen supply items.
- Participates in menu and food preparation for special events as requested by the MANA House Sr. Program Manager, House Manager and CCCS management as requested.
- Provides kitchen back-up support for donor organizations preparing mealson an as needed basis.
- Maintains complete and accurate records on all food and kitchen supply purchases.
- Manages kitchen purchases within prescribed budget. Reports on actual expenditures to budget on a monthly basis.
- Participates in MANA staff meetings. Contributes to MANA strategic planning and activities coordination.

- Promote ongoing commitment to excellence and continual quality improvement to ensure the highest quality of services to our staff and clients.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Education/Background: Minimum of a High School Diplomaor Equivalent. At least 2 years’ experience preparing and serving food in a high-volume kitchen, with at least one year in a large residential facility preferred.
- Job Knowledge: Ability to prepare nutritious meals based on USDA recommendations. Demonstrated knowledge of food and kitchen safety codes and procedures. Experience working with the homeless, veterans, and/or disadvantaged populations is preferred. Knowledge and sensitivity to diverse populations, including gender, age, ethnic and racial backgrounds, religious preferences, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status.Computer proficiency (MS Office) and superior organizational skills. Ability to multi-task and function in a fast paced environment.
- Working Conditions/Physical Demands: Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with moderate interruptions. Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, and ambulate over uneven floor surfaces including stairs and steps. May lift up to 30-35 lbs. The employee is frequently exposed to heat, steam, fire, and noise.
- Other requirements:
- Valid AZ driver’s license with driving record acceptable to insurer’s standards, reliable transportation and ability to show proof of registration/insurance.
- You must be 21 years of age or older to drive on behalf of Catholic Charities.
- Level One Fingerprint clearance or ability to obtain fingerprint clearance; must maintain clearance.
- Must have or complete within 90 days of hire, training in CPR and First Aid and remain current in the certification.
- Must have a valid Certified Food Protection Manager Certificate and must maintain current.
