General Function
The Swim Instructor provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.
Education/Experience/Training/Certifications
- At minimum, some high school level education (over 16+ years of age)
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification and Emergency Oxygen
- Current YMCA Swim Instructor certification OR training provided.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Instructs swimming lessons and prepares lesson plans according to YMCA.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with parents and students to connect and inform parents of each other and student’s accomplishments.
- Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and refers students and parents to other programs.
- Maintains records and attends meetings and trainings as scheduled.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Abilities & Skills
- Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
- Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
