About Step Up
The Step Up Youth Employment Program prepares today’s youth for tomorrow’s careers by recruiting, training, and placing more than 1,500 young people (ages 14-21) in paid internships yearly with over 100 regional employers spanning 15 industries and multiple sectors. Step Up has provided over 34,000 internships since 2003, yielding a competitive talent pipeline, a stronger economy, and millions of dollars in wages for interns.

Job Summary
The Step Up Level 2 Work Readiness Trainer leads a classroom of 25+ young people (ages 16-21) and teaches them the skills they need to be successful in their Step Up summer internships. Guided by the Step Up work readiness curriculum, trainers must exemplify professionalism, be effective and engaging presenters, and offer concrete, personal examples of workplace behaviors. Trainers also assess and document participation for each trainee in their class. This is a part-time, short-term position that REQUIRES a valid teaching license.
The Step Up curriculum is aligned with the Minneapolis Public Schools career readiness seminar so that Step Up interns can earn high school credit for their training.
Time Commitment
Required half-day orientation (date, time, and delivery mode TBD)
Teach three full days of training from 8:00-1:00 pm at Minneapolis College:
- Saturday, May 4th
- Saturday, May 18th
- Saturday, June 1st
Trainers may have additional opportunities for future employment offered in the summer and beyond based on Spring Performance.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Enthusiastically deliver Step Up work readiness curriculum
- Create an environment in which young people are comfortable learning and working together
- Assess and document participation for each trainee
- Assist trainees in preparing for job interviews
- Be present for every training session as listed above
- Attend trainer orientation in Spring 2024
Minimum Requirements
- Valid Minnesota teaching license
- Excellent teaching or training skills
- 1-2 years of professional experience
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to model professionalism to young trainees
- Desire to work with and motivate Minneapolis youth
- Ability to command the attention of a group of young people
- A flexible, positive attitude
- A strong commitment to youth development
- A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record as determined by our insurance carrier
Compensation: $23.00/hr.
