Opportunity Overview: SE NETWORK CIRCLE KEEPER
The mission of the Boys & Girls Club of King County is to, inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to realize their full potential as a productive, responsible, and caring citizens. We recognize that some youth need specialized, non-traditional programming to reach their full potential. The SE Network works with community partners to provide a safety net of specialized targeted programming that works to buffer the consequences of the many risk factors that pull our youth away from Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship and a Healthy Lifestyle.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
As a Circle Keeper, this position will work closely with the Targeted Program Coordinator and the Rainier Beach Community-Wide Restorative Justice (RBCWRJ) Leadership Team to:
- Facilitate Peace/Healing Circles in the Rainier Beach Campus.
- Assist in identifying spaces within Rainier Beach Campus to implement Peace/Healing Circles.
- Assist with implementation of Peace/Healing Circles in identified spaces within the Rainier Beach Campus.
- Assist with outreach and recruitment of youth and adults to attend and participate in Peace/Healing Circles.
- Assist with implementing the Rainier Beach Campus Safety Continuum Tier 1 Prevention and Skill Building with the intent of leading into Tier 2 Early Interventions.
- Work with and/or collaborate with existing community organizations that are currently facilitating Peace Circles within the Rainier Beach Campus.
- Provide relevant information to participants regarding programs and services offered.
WORK WITH SE NETWORK SAFETYNET COORDINATION TEAM TO:
- Assist with the following for RBCWRJ Implementation Plan and Timeline:
- Attend and participate in mandatory Circle Keeper trainings and debriefs/meetings.
- Assist in the development, tracking and reporting of outcome measurements for Peace/Healing Circles.
- Assist in document collection (sign-in/attendance sheets, surveys, field trip permission slips, etc.). This includes tracking youth engagement in Peace/Healing Circles.
- Innovate and implement ways to increase youth engagement and assess effectiveness of Peace/Healing Circles to ensure it meets their needs and wants.
- Network with parents, schools, juvenile justice and other community, government and faith-based agencies as needed.
- Perform other duties and/or tasks as assigned by SE Network Targeted Program Coordinator.
RELATIONSHIPS:
- Internal: Maintain close, daily positive contact with Club staff and volunteers, Club members, and supervisor. Communicate daily to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions.
- External: Support external contact as instructed with community groups, schools, member’s parents and others as directed by supervisor.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Must have High School Diploma or GED Equivalency
- Must have knowledge and experience working with gang-involved or -affiliated youth
- Knowledgeable (or preferably a member) of the community
- Able to demonstrate an ability to build relationships with youth and de-escalate conflicts
- Consistent track record for being reliable and on time
- Able to physically stand for long periods of time and tolerate all weather conditions
- Able to read and write incident reports
- Good attention to detail, professional presence, strong customer relations skills and ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Understanding of youth development principles, ability to motivate youth in a positive way
- Self-motivated and able to work with others on a team and independently with little supervision
- Successful completion of National Criminal History Background check
- Must have problem-solving/conflict-resolution skills
- Must be a passionate servant leader with a strong sense of calling to the field of intervention in addition to insights and understanding of the unique challenges our youth face in the SE Seattle community, these include community/school/family dynamics, risk factors and protective factors
- Ensure member confidentiality during and after employment: which includes, but not limited to membership data, and school data and other information obtained
HOURS: Variable Part-Time, hourly
LOCATION: Smilow Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club, 4520 MLK Jr Way S, Seattle, WA
REPORTS TO: SE Network Targeted Program Coordinator
PAYRATE: $23.00-24.00 per hour (Lifetime Range $20.00-24.00 and hour)
FLSA: Non-exempt
