The Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University is dedicated to excellence in clinical care, education, research and administration. The Director for Academic Affairs & HR Strategies will provide strategic direction and oversight for Academic Affairs and Human Resources. The Director will be responsible for developing and implementing viable administrative structures for the Department; leading, managing and supporting managers/staff in Academic Affairs, and Human Resources to achieve the education, research, and patient care goals of the Department, and ensuring that services are synchronous with and further the Department’s overarching goals, strategies, and initiatives. Position will serve as part of a 3-person cross-functional executive team, provide strategic counsel and direction to the Director of Finance and Administration, Chair, and Associate Chairs regarding the value and impact to the Department of strategies affecting faculty, staff, and trainees.
The ideal candidate will have experience directing cross functional areas in a large academic Department, and experience leading a team of 18 administrative and professional staff. Candidates must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the University reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is between $189,000 to $241,000 based on commensurate experience and background.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced degree in business, human resources, or healthcare administration preferred.
- Experience working in academic medicine desired.
- Experience as an advisor to senior management in all human resources areas, including employee relations, employment and labor law, compensation, staffing and employment, training and development, performance coaching and management, and organizational development.
- Ability to implement organizational change and provide guidance in the development and execution of organization-wide initiatives.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor's degree and seven years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management, or combination of education and relevant experience.
