Position Summary: The Department of Biology is seeking a 100% full-time Life Science Research Professional (LSRP) 1 to work with a group to identify the molecular mechanisms of protein homeostasis. We are seeking a highly motivated LSRP to perform basic functions and activities related to defined research projects and to independently conduct and analyze experiments. Specifically, the LSRP will work as part of a team studying the role and mechanisms of chaperones to maintain protein folding and quality control.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience with protein purification, molecular biology, and cell biology techniques and procedures. They will also be familiar with the principles of biochemistry and have familiarity and interest in working with cell models of disease. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: 1) tissue culture, 2) cloning and expression of proteins, 3) protein purification; 4) microscopy (e.g confocal microscopy, image analysis) and 5) biochemical analyses. Familiarity with statistical methods are a plus.
Additional day-to-day lab functions include ordering supplies, and maintaining shared research equipment and spaces. Applicant should be organized, detail-oriented, intellectually motivated, and have excellent communication skills. Applicant will be involved research projects with collaborative, team-oriented supervision.
The LSRP will report to the Lab Manager/Principal Investigator. Weekend work may be necessary at times. Required weekend work can be substituted for normal workday hours. Work with virus and radioactivity may be required. Work will be carried out primarily in the Department of Biology in the Clark Center but will require visits to core facilities and collaborating labs.
This is a 100% FTE, fixed term (2 years), non-exempt position. This position will be based on the Stanford campus.

CORE DUTIES*:
● Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects in lab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory.
● Independently conduct experiments; maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
● Apply the theories and methods of a life science discipline to interpret and perform analyses of experiment results; offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with senior researcher.
● Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research.
● Contribute to publication of findings as needed. Participate in the preparation of written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals.
● Help with general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed.
● Assist with orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in related scientific field.
Preferred Education & Experience:
The candidate should have a B.A. or B.S. or Masters in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field, and at least 1-3 years of experience in a relevant laboratory setting, preferably with experience in techniques relevant to lab projects. They must be able to work closely with other lab members, yet independently, and must be comfortable presenting and discussing their work. Exceptional organizational abilities, and attention to detail are required. Strong references that document prior research experience and skills are required.

● General understanding of scientific principles. Demonstrated performance to use knowledge and skills when needed.
● Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge of science principals to problem solve work.
● Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
● General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.
● Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
● Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
● May require working in close proximity to blood borne pathogens.
● May require work in an environment where animals are used for teaching and research.
● Position may at times require the employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present.
● Employee must perform tasks that require the use of personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and shoes, protective clothing and gloves, and possibly a respirator.
● May require extended or unusual work hours based on research requirements and business needs.
The expected pay range for this position is $31.40 to $38.89 per hour.
