The Learning, Design, and Technology (LDT) team within the Teaching and Learning Hub (TLH) at the Graduate School of Business (GSB) provides learning design and instructional technology expertise to support faculty in their teaching and enhance the student learning experience at the GSB. The LDT team contributes critically to innovations in teaching and learning, incubating and piloting new teaching technologies, techniques, and programs.
We are looking for an Associate Director of Learning Experience Design (LXD) to lead a creative and talented team of learning experience designers. The team partners with faculty to shape the future of teaching and learning at the GSB, bringing to life MBA, MSx, and Executive Education course content through excellence in design. In addition to developing student-facing content in collaboration with other groups within TLH, the LXD team develops and delivers faculty-facing content and engagements, such as pedagogy workshops, web resources, and one-on-one consultations.
As a manager, you will lead by example, creating a positive working environment for the team and a culture of collaboration, learning, and growth. You are able to prioritize and allocate staff time and team resources appropriately to variable demand as well as evolving types of work. You drive towards the needs of the students and faculty while providing clarity and focus for your team.
The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in learning design, exceptional interpersonal skills, and be excited to collaborate with other teams within TLH and across the GSB in creating outstanding student learning experiences and helping faculty excel in the classroom.
Your primary responsibilities include:
- Manage, recruit, coach, and develop staff learning experience designers.
- Serve as an initial point of contact for pedagogy and instructional design-focused faculty help requests. Meet with faculty to understand their needs and offer resources as appropriate; prioritize, triage, and scope such requests.
- Expand team capacity by developing and overseeing models for working with contract and contingent staff designers.
- Develop, implement, and oversee team vision, goals, and budget in alignment with those of the department.
- Collaborate with the Associate Director of Academic Technology to align on departmental process and priorities.
- Partner with subject matter experts on learning projects from conception, through design and production, to completion.
- Evaluate pedagogy goals with technology tools, with emphasis on designing and using the appropriate technology for the situation.
- Oversee appropriateness, effectiveness, efficiency, scope, and success of departmental learning design projects.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute projects according to defined deadlines while maintaining consistency with strategy and goals.
Qualifications
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree and seven years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
- Excellent management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop departmental budgets, timelines, goals, and schedules.
- Demonstrated ability to present new projects and goals to senior management; defend/advocate those projects as needed.
- Ability to provide thought leadership in learning design and development and in classroom, blended, and online teaching.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in consulting with subject matter experts to assess teaching and learning needs and recommend high-impact learning solutions.
- Demonstrated proficiency in explaining and applying instructional design theory, models, learning science, and best practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, learning team members, vendor partners, and program partners, at all levels.
- Experience working on cross-functional teams with media professionals, academic technologists, and software developers.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate the effectiveness of learning materials.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
In addition, our preferred requirements include:
- Higher education or online education experience.
- Master’s degree or higher in education, curriculum and instruction, learning technologies, or related fields.
- Experience developing and overseeing models for working with contract and contingent staff designers.
