Catering and Functions Manager
NRL Cowboys House is removing distance as a barrier to quality secondary education for Indigenous students from some of Australia’s most remote and geographically disadvantaged communities.
Managed by the Cowboys Community Foundation, the charity arm of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, NRL Cowboys House is a joint initiative between the National Rugby League, North Queensland Cowboys, the Queensland Government and the Australian Government. The NRL Cowboys House provides accommodation for 97 students in modern, purpose-built residences. The facilities are centrally located in Gulliver, Townsville, and have easy access to the city’s private and public secondary schools and major sport and recreation clubs and facilities.
The House's aim is to provide education, employment and training opportunities for residents in a culturally appropriate, safe and engaging residential environment.
The Catering and Functions Manager oversee food safety and hygiene, the overall organisation and management of the kitchen and dining room spaces, menu development, meal preparation for students, catering for external hires and budget management, including liaising with external suppliers for best price.
The Catering Manager and Functions Manager is also responsible for overseeing the supervision of the Chef, ordering and maintaining stores, providing accurate costings, reviewing and improving the operation of the kitchen, and ensuring the provision of alternative meals in accordance with student and visitors health requirements.
The Catering and Functions Manager will work closely with the Chef to ensure that all food served meets the facilities quality standards and dietary and nutritional requirements as it relates to children, adolescents and athletes while ensuring meals are healthy, tasty and varied.
The successful candidate will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary NRL Cowboys House team.
This position will play a key role in the development of the NRL Cowboys House model of care.
This position is Full-Time (38 hours per week), including morning, afternoon and early evening hours, and will require a flexible approach to ensure adequate service is provided.
Essential Skills/knowledge/qualifications:
• Relevant qualifications in cooking related field (Cert III Cookery)
• Other industry related courses (desirable)
• 3 or more years’ experience as a qualified Chef / Cook; training and supervising kitchen and dining room staff, preferably in a boarding school setting.
• Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
• A working knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety requirements
• Experience in menu planning, kitchen management, ordering of provisions and stock control.
• Previous Experience in working with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people (desirable).
• High level of time management and problem-solving skills
• Possess a flexible attitude to work hours and a willingness to work shifts.
• Current Driver's Licence (LR desirable)
• Current First Aid and CPR qualifications or willing to obtain.
• Current Working with Children Check Blue Card (mandatory)
