Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a sophisticated leader to grow our impact and influence in partnership with our programs throughout the Africa region. The right fit for this vital role possesses a blend of strategic and operational expertise along with experience partnering with fundraising teams to grow income. The Area Vice President reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, is responsible for providing oversight and direction to Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) programs in the Africa (AFR) region. In addition, as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and the Operations Leadership Team (OLT), the Area VP plays a critical role in contributing to HFHI's strategic direction.
This essential leadership role helps drive the next phase of Habitat’s strategy and programming in order to reduce the number of families lacking adequate housing within Africa. To this aim, we are seeking a senior leader who will lead Habitat’s efforts in the AFR region to deepen our impact, increase our influence, grow our resources, leverage innovation and maximize organizational effectiveness. This position is based in our Nairobi, Kenya Area Office.
Key Duties and Responsibilities- Manage the HFHI Africa region:
- Develop and guide, in consultation with key stakeholders, the implementation of the Africa Strategic Framework and key change components.
- Supervise key leadership roles including programs, human resources, business services, and resource development.
- Facilitate and nurture relationships with National Organizations and boards.
- Promote mutual culture of interdependence and accountability.
- Grow resources for HFHI's operations in the area.
- Develop and cultivate strategic partnerships and funding relationships with external organizations, international agencies, and donors.
- Cross-functionally support the work of the Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter.
- Position Habitat for Humanity International as a thought partner for housing. Serving as a housing advocate in the region. Host and participate in key forums and conversations to promote policies, funding, and actions to promote decent shelter for all.
- Serve as the primary focal point for National Office Boards and regularly liaise with Board chairs to collaborate and strengthen shared accountability.
- Provide leadership to the Africa region to contextually realize the global strategy.
- Pay regular visits to the National Organizations and/or attend events/meetings for the purpose of networking and identifying issues and concerns.
- Provide leadership and stewardship that supports HFHI’s Christian faith and values through active servant leadership, motivating Area Habitat staff members, serving partner families, and encouraging volunteers to follow the mission and vision of HFHI.
Minimum Requirements- Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience in the Africa region.
- 15+ years of program management or international development/humanitarian experience required of which 10 years was in a leadership role.
- Experience leading teams and organizational change.
- Outstanding oral and written communication.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in native language from the African continent preferred English, both written and spoken.
