Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. MBA, CPA or CMA preferred.
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP, fund accounting, and internal control systems
- 5+ years of experience managing a team.
- Strong attention to detail and strong organizational, time-management, problem-solving and analytical skills.

Essential Functions
Financial Reporting, Close, and Analysis
- Manage all controllership functions, including monthly and year-end closings; general ledger maintenance; balance sheet and bank reconciliations; journal entries; accruals; and preparation of accurate, timely financial statements for all funds.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements and management reports, highlighting major variances and providing actionable insights to the Finance Director.
- Coordinate and report financial results on a regular basis and support ad hoc financial reporting needs.
Budgeting, Forecasting, and Financial Planning
- Assist the Finance Director in developing, monitoring, and managing the annual operating budget.
- Support departmental budget owners through tools, training, and timely financial insights.
- Monitor budget-to-actual performance and identify opportunities for improved financial outcomes.
- Provide guidance and recommendations to the Finance Director on issues impacting the Y’s financial performance.
Internal Controls, Compliance, and Audit
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and all applicable regulations.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls.
- Assist the Finance Director in managing external audit processes and maintain strong working relationships with auditors.
- Ensure preparation and submission of required financial reports to governmental agencies, Y-USA, and other oversight entities.
Systems Administration and Process Improvement
- Oversee the accounting system (SGA), including configuration, administration, user access management, and creation of general ledger accounts.
- Ensure accurate and efficient data flow across integrated systems (e.g., payroll, donor management, membership).
- Lead or support system upgrades, automation initiatives, and process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency.
Grants, Contributions, and Accounts Receivable
- Ensure accurate financial management of grants, including tracking, reporting, and compliance with funder requirements.
- Complete monthly reconciliations of contributions with the Development Department.
- Oversee accounts receivable processes, perform monthly reconciliations, and partner with Directors to resolve outstanding debt.
Leadership, Team Support, and Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Support the Finance Director in departmental management and serve as acting Finance Director during absences.
- Manage, develop, and mentor accounting staff, fostering a collaborative, high-performance team environment.
- Serve as backup for the accountant and perform their duties when needed.
- Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and contribute to organization-wide financial discussions.
Other Responsibilities
- Attend required trainings, seminars, and meetings.
- Lead or participate in special projects that support financial objectives.
- Demonstrate commitment to child abuse prevention by adhering to all child protection policies, completing required training, and reporting concerns promptly.
