As a staff member of El Puente, the Community School Coordinator is expected to embody and uphold the mission, philosophy, and principles of the organization.
Position Overview
The Community School Coordinator is a relationship-centered role that supports the connection between middle school and high school youth through mentorship, programming, and intentional community-building.
This role helps create a space where young people feel supported, challenged, and inspired, where mentors grow into leaders and mentees build confidence, voice, and a sense of belonging.
Working closely with the Community School Director and school partners, the Coordinator plays a key role in strengthening a mentorship pathway that connects youth across grade levels and supports their academic, social, and personal development.
This is a role for someone who believes in the power of youth leadership, values collaboration, and is excited to help build a program that feels organized, engaging, and rooted in care.
Supporting the Program’s Daily Flow
- Supporting the day-to-day coordination of the high school–middle school partnership so programming runs smoothly and with intention
- Maintaining consistent communication with school partners, including program staff and leadership
- Supporting attendance tracking, session documentation, and overall program organization
Growing Youth Leadership & Mentorship
- Supporting the development of a mentorship pathway connecting high school mentors with middle school mentees
- Co-creating curriculum and activities centered on socio-emotional learning, critical thinking, and technology awareness
- Facilitating workshops, trainings, and activities that support youth leadership, confidence, and skill-building
- Creating spaces where mentors feel prepared and supported, and mentees feel engaged and valued
Building Meaningful Relationships
- Serving as a bridge between school communities to strengthen communication, alignment, and support for youth
- Building trusting relationships with students, staff, and program partners
- Supporting youth in developing their voice, agency, and connection to community
Strengthening the Program Experience
- Gathering feedback from participants to continuously improve programming
- Supporting the coordination of events, workshops, and trips that enrich the youth experience
- Ensuring programming spaces feel structured, welcoming, and engaging
- Ability to conduct research on existing mentorship models in either the non-profit/education field to help bolster the foundation of the program
Supporting Group Spaces & Identity-Based Programming
- Coordinating with facilitators supporting identity-based groups (e.g., men’s and women’s groups)
- Monitoring participation and supporting youth engagement across program spaces
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- Relevant education or equivalent experience (degree requirements may vary)
- Experience working with youth in a school or community-based setting
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships across teams
- Commitment to youth development, community, and social justice
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Experience in mentorship programs, afterschool settings, or youth leadership development
- Familiarity with NYC school communities
Schedule
- Part-time position, based in Brooklyn
- 25 hours per week / 4 days
- Schedule may shift based on program needs
