World Central Kitchen (WCK) seeks a dynamic, collaborative Director, Individual Giving to lead one of our most vital funding streams. Individual Giving represents over half of WCK's annual revenue, and this role sits at the center of that work, balancing external leadership as a senior ambassador and trusted partner to major donors and family foundations, with internal leadership of a high-performing team responsible for securing, stewarding, and expanding the relationships that fuel our mission and global impact.
The Director will bring strong relationship management skills, strategic vision, and an entrepreneurial mindset to a fast-paced, mission-driven environment - providing strategic direction and operational oversight across major gifts, mid-level giving, recurring donations, and launching our planned giving program.
This is a critical role for an organization that must be ready to mobilize donor support at a moment's notice. The Director will play a central part in ensuring WCK has the resources and relationships in place to respond rapidly and effectively when disaster strikes.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as the primary relationship lead for a portfolio of major donors and family foundations, driving revenue growth through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Build and maintain a robust pipeline of prospective and recurring donors to ensure sustainable, long-term revenue growth.
- Represent WCK at meetings, events, conferences, and speaking engagements, serving as a trusted ambassador of the organization’s mission and values.
Revenue Strategy and Planning
- Develop and manage annual and multi-year revenue goals and strategies for major, mid-level, and recurring giving, including launching WCK’s planned giving program.
- Partner with Development leadership to ensure Individual Giving efforts align with broader organizational fundraising priorities and Response Team needs.
- Monitor performance against goals, using data and insights to adapt strategy in response to evolving opportunities and operational demands.
Team Management
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the Individual Giving team, providing clear direction, support, and accountability.
- Establish team priorities, KPIs and annual goals, guiding strategic planning and execution across portfolios.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture through team meetings, communications, and shared ownership of outcomes.
- Support professional growth through ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance management of direct reports.
Cross Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the primary internal representative for major and mid-level giving in cross-functional meetings, campaigns, and strategic discussions.
- Collaborate closely with Marketing and Communications to ensure effective and cohesive donor communications.
- 8-10 years of experience with individual giving programs. Demonstrated success in securing 7-figure gifts, as well as long-term donor engagement and retention with a creative, trust-centered approach to donor relationships.
- 3-5 years of experience leading, motivating and managing individuals and teams.
- Experience developing fundraising strategies, KPIs, and revenue plans.
- Comfort leveraging fundraising and donor engagement technologies to drive smarter and more personalized outreach.
- Understanding of trends in philanthropy, including recurring giving and planned giving.
- Working knowledge of Salesforce; experience using data to inform strategy.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and lead through change.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills; comfort engaging senior executives and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Occasional travel, up to 25%. This position is intended to be hybrid, based in Washington, DC, with a minimum of 2 days on-site per week.
- Preferred candidates will be multilingual and have prior experience in relief organizations.
