The Executive Director Philanthropic Partnerships (EDPP) designs and implements a comprehensive development program to engage and solicit corporate and foundation prospects in support of university strategic priorities to achieve escalating development goals and metrics. The EDPP will lead a team of corporate and foundation philanthropy officers and support staff responsible for coordinating activity, developing strategies, building relationships with external constituents and raising significant support from corporations and foundations. The Executive Director is personally responsible for growing the CFP portfolio by strategically identifying, engaging, qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting and closing major and principal gifts of $500,000 or more from philanthropic partners. As a centrally-based development professional, this position is responsible for collaborating with all University Advancement and development colleagues to understand, educate and communicate funding opportunities across all areas of the University that may resonate with corporate and foundation prospects. The executive director will integrate and expand programs for principal gifts into a cohesive plan to achieve aggressive goals and stated objectives.

Position Specific Accountabilities
Manage team of corporate and foundation philanthropy officers and support staff in support of reaching aggressive goals for institutional support. (20%)
Develop and personally manage a portfolio of approximately 50-60 corporate and foundation prospects for the purposes of strategically identifying, engaging, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and closing major- and principal-level gifts of $500,000 or more, to achieve annual and campaign development goals. Determine funding and partnership opportunities with corporate and foundation officers and trustees to maximize the University’s ability to acquire funding. (30%)
In consultation with the Vice President of Development, design and execute annual and multi-year comprehensive development plans to substantially increase major- and principal-level philanthropic support from corporate and foundation prospects to support transformational funding priorities that advance key unit and University objectives and initiatives. Develop and implement strategies for expanding the University’s contacts and relationships with corporations and foundations on a local, state-wide, and national level. Serve as a member of the development and University Advancement senior management teams. Oversee discovery efforts to enhance and grow the CFP development pipeline. Achieve annual and campaign goals. (25%)
Work with the Deans, faculty and other institutional leadership to identify and prioritize funding needs that can be fulfilled through gifts from corporations and foundations. Maintain knowledge of all priorities within the University, utilizing intelligence to lead strategy development for high-level donor-centric solicitations. Develop partnerships across the campus community to fully-leverage the potential for corporate and foundation support, including the offices of Research and Sponsored Projects, Career and Professional Development, External Relations, Finance and others. Engage University Leadership in cultivation and solicitation of corporate and foundation officers and board members when appropriate. Coordinate University solicitations of corporations and foundations for significant, multi-year commitments. (20%)
Prepare and monitor budgets. Perform other duties as assigned or requested. (5%)

Requisite Qualifications
Typically a Bachelor’s Degree with advanced degree and additional training in developmental techniques preferred. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
Minimum 10 years of successful fundraising experience in non-profit organizations, or related professions. Successful major gift solicitation experiences are highly desirable, including working with volunteers and soliciting gifts face-to-face. Experience in situations requiring keen judgment and innovativeness. Experience with budget management, supervision of staff and staff development is preferred.
Thorough knowledge and appreciation of fundraising principles as they relate to the funding process of corporations, foundations, and individuals. An ongoing knowledge of corporate, foundation, and individual funding sources. Thorough understanding and appreciation of the Loyola Marymount traditions, and of the Mission and Goals of the University. Knowledge of emerging trends, current events and practices as well as leadership in corporate and foundation communities is important. Familiarity with database management and spreadsheet programs is highly desirable.
Ability to conduct research, develop solicitation strategies, and compose accurate letters and proposals; organized in order to ensure the timely cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of foundations and corporations. Ability to speak effectively in front of large audiences. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of information.
Effective interpersonal skills to relate well with corporate and foundation officers, community and civic leaders, Deans, LMU volunteers, and staff; communication skills to represent effectively and accurately the needs of the University to parties mentioned above.
Exemplary communication skills evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.
Highly developed organizational and leadership skills.
Demonstrated computer competency and proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point. Comfortable with learning new systems unique to development.
Excellent administrative ability to develop strategic plan, develop cultivation plans, organize and prioritize multiple projects, and maintain ongoing and consistent communication with external and internal constituents. Sensitivity to needs of deans, faculty, council members, foundation and corporate prospects, and adherence to the mission and goals of the University.
