About the role
As General Manager, Social Impact & Partnerships, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across RACS’ social impact portfolio. You will bring together philanthropy, partnerships and global health programs to deliver sustainable outcomes for Indigenous communities, Indo-Pacific partners and vulnerable populations.
A key focus of the role is building strong, respectful relationships with donors, governments, health partners, Fellows and volunteers, ensuring programs are designed and delivered in ways that create lasting benefit.You will:• Lead the integration of the Foundation for Surgery and Global Health into a cohesive, high-impact function aligned with RACS strategy • Shape and deliver a clear social impact strategy, including priority regions, programs and funding approaches • Develop and grow partnerships and funding opportunities that support long-term sustainability • Strengthen donor engagement through authentic storytelling, transparency and measurable impact • Oversee program delivery to ensure strong outcomes, compliance and responsible stewardship of funding • Establish clear impact measurement and reporting frameworks • Represent RACS externally, building credibility and influence in surgical equity and global health • Lead governance, safeguarding and risk management practices aligned with DFAT/ANCP and ACFID standards • Support and develop a high-performing team and collaborative culture
This role works closely with senior leaders across RACS to align program delivery, fundraising, communications and organisational priorities.
This position is full time ongoing and based in our Melbourne office.

About the teamYou will join the Operations and Partnerships portfolio and report to the Chief Operations and Partnerships Officer. The role leads two experienced managers responsible for the Foundation for Surgery and Global Health programs.RACS works alongside surgeons, health professionals, governments and community partners to improve surgical care and health equity. About youYou are an experienced leader in social impact, global health or international development who understands that meaningful outcomes are achieved through partnership, trust and accountability.You bring a balance of strategic thinking and practical delivery, with the ability to connect people around a shared purpose.You will have:• Relevant postgraduate qualifications • Extensive experience leading health or development programs in low- and middle-income country contexts • Demonstrated success managing multidisciplinary teams and complex programs • Experience developing funding strategies, partnerships and diversified income streams • Strong understanding of donor compliance frameworks, including DFAT/ANCP and ACFID requirements • Experience working with governments, donors, professional bodies or health organisations • Strong financial management capability and a focus on sustainability • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills • A commitment to cultural competence, safeguarding and ethical practice Most importantly, you value collaboration, listen well, and build genuine relationships that enable long-term impact.
