The Planned Giving Officer works closely with the President of the Foundation and Philanthropy Team to plan and implement strategy for a comprehensive planned giving program. The Planned Giving Officer is responsible for the design, implementation and administration of the planned giving program for the benefit of The Tidewell Foundation and Empath Health Affiliates including multi-faceted marketing strategies to promote planned giving, as well as identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospective planned giving donors, and is responsible for training and support for other staff members working with donors on deferred and planned gifts such as trusts, charitable annuities, life insurance, wills, and bequests. This position is also responsible for the administration of all estates and trusts in which Tidewell Foundation has a beneficial interest.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conceive, plan and execute a comprehensive planned giving effort to include estates, trusts, bequests, annuities and all types of planned giving instruments.
- Maintain a personal portfolio of 25 current donors and prospects.
- Communicate with portfolio constituents through face-to-face solicitation and stewardship meetings and written strategies.
- Create clear strategies and timeline for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for each major donor, constituent and prospect.
- Plan and implement a comprehensive retention and stewardship plan for existing planned giving donors, in conjunction with the development team.
- Convert major donors and/or long-time, loyal donors to planned giving prospects and donors in concert with the Development Team
- Manage all estates and trusts records, physical files, gift acknowledgments, gift records and distribution correspondence.
- Support the fundraising efforts of high-level volunteers, including the Board of Directors and senior staff in securing new and renewed gifts.
- Oversee the partnership with the contracted Planned Giving vendor.
- With the President of the Foundation, create and manage budgets for special campaigns; track and report on progress to goal to colleagues, including contacts, gifts, pledges and planned gifts.
- Provide up to date communication and support materials, making them available to the Development team, volunteers and senior management, including talking points, solicitation materials, background and follow-up proposals.
- Support the design and implementation of donor recognition strategies and events.
- With the Philanthropy Team, work to conceive, create and execute continuous on-going stewardship program.
- With the Philanthropy Team, host a special planned giving annual event, including seminars, targeted to current and prospective donors.
- Be a visible presence at Tidewell Foundation special events, such as receptions, major donor cultivation and public education events and fundraisers.
- Participate in Philanthropy Team meetings and act as leader to the Foundation and Empath.
- Practices the highest standards of ethics and maintains a current and comprehensive body of knowledge regarding planned giving, estate planning and fundraising.
- Ensures compliance with professional, regulatory and governmental standards.
- Represent Empath Health in the community.
- All other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university (master’s degree and or CFRE preferred); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Superior interpersonal communication, both oral and written, required
- Experience and proficiency with moves management
- Fundraising experience required and related work experience, including working with volunteers and leading committees
- Willing to be hands-on in a role that is demanding and requires a high level of energy and non-regular work schedules
- Experience and proficiency with The Raiser’s Edge and all Microsoft systems including Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
- Ability to create and write proposals, presentations, foundation grants and donor materials including development of case for support materials
- Requires ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize assignments in a timely manner to complete assignments when faced with competing deadlines
