Background:
The post is situated within the Human Rights Section (HRS) of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (Mission) Human Dimension Department (HDD). The Mission's overarching objective is to aid Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in establishing a secure, democratic, and prosperous state with functional, accountable institutions, while ensuring respect for the rule of law and the enjoyment of fundamental human rights and freedoms by all citizens.
HRS is one of four programmatic sections of the Mission's HDD, focusing on the protection and promotion of fundamental rights, especially for individuals in vulnerable situations. The section's portfolios include fundamental freedoms, anti-discrimination, social and economic rights, and Roma and national minorities.
The HRS project objective is to facilitate the protection and promotion of fundamental rights, particularly for individuals in vulnerable situation. This further aligns with the Mission’s core mandate to promote stability and reconciliation in BiH by developing systems of governance, justice, and education that uphold human rights and the rule of law.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer responsible for Roma and national minorities issues and overall supervision of the Head of the Human Rights Section, the successful candidate will be tasked with the following duties:
1. Assisting in developing and conducting research related to national minorities issues;
2. Providing programmatic and administrative support services for the planning and implementation of project activities;
3. Assisting in drafting, proof-reading, and editing programmatic/analytical documents such as briefing packages;
4. Attending internal and external meetings and taking notes as required;
5. Performing other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications:
- You should be under the age of 30 on the date of the deadline of this vacancy notice/requisition;
- You should be in your final year of higher education at graduate or postgraduate level or within two years after graduation by the deadline of the vacancy notice/requisition;
- Your educational background should be in a field relevant to the OSCE’s mandate;
- Professional fluency in English with excellent communication (both oral and written) skills;
- Strong analytical social research skills;
- Self-motivated and able to work independently;
- Computer literate with practical experience using Microsoft applications;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from different national and cultural backgrounds, while maintaining impartiality and objectivity;
- Previous experience in drafting research and having knowledge about human rights issues would be an asset.
Remuneration Package:
The OSCE is not in a position to pay any remuneration or cover any expenses incurred by the intern during his/her stay in Sarajevo nor reimburse travel expenses. However, interns selected who are non-residents of Sarajevo may be eligible for some compensation towards their living costs in Sarajevo.
The internship lasts up to three (3) months for international applicants.
Internships do not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE.
The selected intern shall provide the OSCE with evidence that he/she has health insurance coverage which is valid for Bosnia and Herzegovina, otherwise he/she shall be obliged to join the OSCE group health insurance scheme for the period of their internship, at their own expense. The OSCE will cover life and disability insurance for the duration of internship.
