Hi, future teammate!
We are a dedicated group of data nerds inspired by the extraordinary things that can happen when people come together as a community.
We partner with organizations that see community building as a core part of their work. Together, we build customized (and beautiful) data tools and strategies to make their work easier and more impactful. Our primary tool is Salesforce, and we work with clients to not only migrate their data and improve data management, but to make sure that what they measure is actually driving growth and impact. We’re now in our seventh year and just passed 24 full-time team members.
POSITION OVERVIEW
As a Product Owner at OpenTent, your role is to help our clients and our internal team effectively assess client needs, define the scope of work to be done, and manage expectations for delivery of improved functionality. You will draw on your knowledge of smart organizational design, Salesforce for nonprofits, and your robust Scrum experience to translate client vision and context to your team of Solutions Engineers.
Similar roles at other companies might be referred to as “Salesforce Business Analyst” or “Technical Project Manager”. We are looking for someone who can bring both strategic and technical lenses to any conversation. This role will call on your ability to support non-profit leaders as they clarify their organizational and technology goals, translate those goals into actionable product roadmaps with Epics and User Stories, and support the OpenTent team in organizing their work.
There may also be an opportunity to contribute to the team in an engineering capacity from time to time. This would include configuring Salesforce to support client business requirements, integrating third-party systems, troubleshooting, and QA.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Product Owner will work closely with a team of Engineers and a Project Manager (Scrum Master) to ensure the team is prepared for Scrum Events and to hold the context/vision for the value the Scrum Team is delivering to client users and stakeholders.
- Help clients identify the most important work to be done to support their long-term goals.
- Working together with the Project Manager and Engineers on your team, support clients in defining their Quarterly Priorities for Salesforce.
- Facilitate stakeholder alignment conversations as needed
- Define MVP - what do we need to say “no” to?
- Communicate important information about those discussions back to the internal team, and hold the context/vision for these Priorities during Scrum events.
- Lead client-facing requirements gathering sessions and translate client needs into Salesforce product requirements.
- Once those Quarterly Priorities have been defined, gather requirements from users and stakeholders in order to fully define the scope of these Projects.
- Lead Backlog Refinement on an ongoing basis:
- Projects are properly documented into Epics and broken down into User Stories.
- Epics and User Stories are prioritized and ready for Sprint Planning.
- Manage client expectations around delivery of Quarterly Priorities.
- Help translate and communicate about the work required to complete client priorities for client users and stakeholders, and keep clients informed about progress.
- Ensure alignment and clarity around MVP as the quarter progresses.
- Lead Sprint Review/Demo meetings with the client and the Engineers to ensure that all work is properly demoed and shared back with the client.
- Lead conversations with clients to listen to concerns, questions, and feedback. Elevate risks up and down the chain internally.
- Support client-facing User Adoption, Change Management, and Training as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2+ years of experience as a Salesforce Business Analyst OR 2+ years of experience serving as a Product Owner
- 1+ years of experience configuring Salesforce. (Salesforce certifications, including Salesforce Certified Business Analyst, a plus)
- 1+ years of experience working with nonprofit organizations
- 1+ years of change management experience.
- Experience working within the Agile/Scrum methodology (CSPO certification a plus).
- Excited about managing complicated and often ambiguous projects.
- Experienced at communicating with high-level stakeholders (C-suite and above).
- Experienced at switching gears in a fast-paced environment and balancing several projects at once.
- Experienced at defining KPIs and leading teams to achieve outcomes, including defining and adhering to MVP in technical work.
- An excellent communicator. You can present thoughts and ideas well verbally, through emails and through visual communication you design. You are an active listener.
- A meeting facilitator. You can define meeting goals, chart the path to getting there, address meeting success roadblocks, and foster a productive and collaborative space toward achieving those goals.
- A problem solver. You are energized when you see something that could be better and motivated to do something about it.
