The Moran Company is pleased to partner with the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians to recruit the organization's new Executive Director.
The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) is the only national association representing the professional interests of paramedics, advanced emergency medical technicians, emergency medical technicians, emergency medical responders and other professionals providing prehospital and out-of-hospital emergent, urgent or preventive medical care. NAEMT was formed in 1975 and is now over 90,000 members strong.
About the Organization
The mission of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) is to represent and serve emergency medical technicians (EMTs), advanced EMTs, paramedics, and specialty paramedics, and support personnel through advocacy, education, and research.
NAEMT members work in all sectors of EMS, including government service agencies, fire departments, hospital-based ambulance services, private companies, industrial and special operations settings, and in the military. They also work in hospitals, clinics and other healthcare settings.
The association has an annual revenue budget of $3.9 million and is supported by a staff of 20 including independent contractors (all working remotely). A 15-member elected Board of Directors leads the association. The Board includes an appointed medical director who is an experienced EMS physician. The Board relies on volunteer committees comprised of members to assist in carrying out the work of the association. A large network of corporate partners and affiliated associations also supports the mission.
The association maintains a headquarters building in Clinton, Mississippi.
NAEMT is organized under section 501(c) 6 of the U.S. tax code.
NAEMT Services
NAEMT serves its members by advocating on issues that impact their ability to provide quality patient care, providing high quality education that improves the knowledge and skills of practitioners, and supporting EMS research and innovation.
Advocacy
NAEMT is at the forefront of national discussions and initiatives that have significant impact on the EMS profession. Issues include workforce recruitment and retention, EMS practitioner and patient safety, reimbursement, increased funding for EMS in underserved areas, integration with the healthcare continuum, and community paramedicine. NAEMT advocates to members of Congress and their staff through nationwide grassroots advocacy campaigns, a professional lobbying team, and contributions to candidates for federal office via NAEMT’s EMS PAC.
Education
NAEMT provides continuing education to over 148,000 EMS practitioners and other prehospital providers in 87 countries. NAEMT works with more than 17,700 instructors through our network of 2,600 approved training centers to conduct our courses. NAEMT is the global standard in continuing education for EMS practitioners and other prehospital providers and NAEMT provides evidence-based, referenced, and field-tested courses that emphasize critical thinking skills to obtain the best outcomes for patients. NAEMT courses are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Prehospital Continuing Education (CAPCE). The extensive and respected education program provides the majority of the association’s revenue.
Executive Director Position Summary
The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of the association, responsible for overseeing the finances, personnel, advocacy and education programs, and business development. The Executive Director reports to the Board President and is responsible for supporting the association’s board of directors in carrying out the work of the association. NAEMT is seeking an experienced Executive Director to continue the organization’s strong record of accomplishment, and to lead its growth and development into the future. The position is classified as remote and includes travel of at least 30% time.
Executive Director Key Responsibilities
- Serves as the primary staff contact to the President, the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors. Prepares the agenda and supporting documents for the Board’s monthly meetings.
- Works with the management team to prepare or revise operational policies for review and approval by the Board.
- Responsible for the association’s human resources. Works with the management team to:
- Hire, train and evaluate employees and independent contractors;
- Develop and administer a compensation program for all employees and contractors, and performance appraisal process for all employees.
- Ensures that all work assigned to headquarters staff is carried out efficiently. On an ongoing basis, evaluates headquarters operations to identify and implement business process improvements.
- Recommends to the Board for approval an annual plan for volunteer committees and work groups. Ensures that all committees and work groups receive appropriate staff support.
- Works with the Board to develop the association’s strategic goals and business plans. Develops annual operating plans that support the achievement of the association’s strategic goals. Ensures that these plans are appropriately executed.
- Identifies and develops domestic and international business initiatives to advance the association. Manages the association’s global business operations.
- Supports the association’s relationships with other organizations. Works with the President to coordinate appointments of NAEMT representatives to other organizations and assignments to represent NAEMT at EMS meetings and conferences. Develops relationships with industry leaders.
- Manages the association’s brands. Directs the association’s corporate communications, key messaging, marketing and branding.
- Works with the management team to plan the programs for NAEMT’s meetings, including the annual meeting and EMS on the Hill Day, and NAEMT exhibits at conferences and events.
- Attends meetings of other organizations, as needed.
- Experience and understanding of emergency response and/or emergency medicine professions and systems highly desirable.
- Experience in domestic and international business development highly desirable.

Compensation
The annual salary range for this position is $195,000 - $245,000 (commensurate with experience), plus potential performance bonuses. NAEMT offers benefits including a stipend for individual health coverage, paid leave, and matching contributions to a retirement account.
