Salary: $15.75 - $16.50 per hour

The Opportunity
We are hiring for a number of positions to support the operation of our Summer Day Camps for children 5 to 12 years old at four sites: Community YMCA, John W. Lindsay YMCA, NSCC Akerley Campus, and Rockingham United Church. Please only apply to the specific location(s) you are interested in. YMCA Day Camp staff are responsible for providing a safe, fun, inclusive environment for kids.
Responsibilities
- Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of campers during all activities.
- Activity Planning: Organize and lead age-appropriate games, crafts, and other activities to engage and entertain the children.
- Guidance and Support: Offer support and guidance to campers, helping them navigate social interactions and conflicts.
- Communication: Maintain open communication with parents, providing updates on their child's experiences and addressing any concerns.
- Teamwork: Collaborate with fellow counselors and camp staff to create a positive and inclusive camp environment.
- Safety: Enforce camp safety rules and procedures, including first aid and emergency response protocols.
- Role Modeling: Demonstrate positive behavior and attitudes for campers, acting as a role model for appropriate conduct.
- Adaptability: Be flexible and adaptable to handle unexpected situations and changes in the daily schedule.
- Inclusion: Foster an inclusive environment that respects and celebrates diversity among campers.
- Fun and Creativity: Infuse a sense of fun and creativity into the camp experience to make it enjoyable for all participants.
Qualifications & Skills
- High School diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience, with a strong reference
- Previous experience working with children and youth
- Demonstrated success in planning/organizing games, sports, arts, crafts, cultural activities, lead field trips, etc.
- Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills to work with youth, parents, and staff
- Demonstrated ability to meet multiple, competing deadlines and priorities
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation/workshop facilitation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
