JOB SUMMARY: The Resident Assistant supports residents (with or without dementia) maintain a sense of independence and vitality by aiding them in daily tasks, such as resident services, basic personal care and household services essential to the independence of elderly clients with dementia. Follows Service Plan of care developed by interdisciplinary team, and contributes to it. Communicates directly with family members.

- Assists with move-ins by welcoming new resident and family, by providing for basic immediate needs, and by gradually introducing resident to other residents and scheduled activities.
- Assists residents with hygiene, mobility, toileting, eating, and participating in meaningful recreational activities.
- Ensures a clean, safe, homelike atmosphere, and respects the individuality of each resident
- Oversees physical care (bathing, grooming, feeding, and toileting) for residents as needed
- Recommends, provides, and participates in meaningful therapeutic activities suitable to resident needs, abilities and interests.
- Observes and reports changes in client's physical and emotional condition. Listens to resident and family concerns attentively and report problems in a timely fashion.
- Understands and performs the cleaning procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, using proper cleaning techniques at all times.
- Prepares materials needed for activities/transports residents to and from living room or activity area. Arranges room to be conducive to specific activities and returns room to original setup.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Understanding of Point Click Care or similar systems.
- Demonstrated compassionate holistic care with dignity and respect.
- Experience in a residential care facility preferred
- Ability to be patient and calm, especially in difficult situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with residents, families, and employees
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma required.
- Two years work experience in a Resident Assistant role preferred.
- 2 years minimum in Assisted Living and or Memory Care Assisted Living.
- Proficient using MS Office Suite.
- Basic Life Support (CPR)
