Our client is a Harrow based charity providing important services to those with housing and homelessness issues. The organisation has been successfully growing and is now looking to grow their team to help them achieve plans to develop their services and increase capacity. The successful candidate will play an important role in assisting clients in accessing suitable and sustainable housing.
Day to day responsibilities will include:
Clients
·Casework for individual clients, based on their needs. This is likely to include a mix of the following elements:
oNeeds assessment
oRisk assessment
oUnderstanding of Mental Health Referrals
o
oBenefits application and compliance
oBudgeting/managing money
oAccessing training/work
oSignposting clients to other relevant agencies and support
oDealing with health issues, including mental health and addiction
oFinding, viewing and moving into accommodation
oAccompanying clients to appointments where necessary
oHobbies, interests, social activities
Day Services (COVID-19 permitting – currently suspended)
·Assist at Drop-in service twice weekly
·Assist at Signposting Service 2hrs
·Ensuring sufficient supplies of “Shower Packs” for the drop-ins
·Preparing “Welcome Packs” for clients moving into accommodation
·Working with and supporting volunteers who attend to provide food and/or social activities
·Ensuring the safety and security of participants and venues during the drop-in
·Initial assessment of client needs
·Ensuring venues are left clean and tidy after drop-ins
Night Shelter
·Assessment of Clients
·Liaising with Harrow Council (and where applicable Hotels)
·Case Work
·Liaise with administrator
Community
·Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with other relevant agencies working with or on behalf of clients
·Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with landlords and letting agencies who are willing to consider housing clients
·Supporting the Charity Manager in the promotion of the organisation and its activities
Administration
·Recording all activity on the internal information system
Requirements
Essential Requirements:
- Experience of working with homeless and vulnerable people
- A positive and flexible attitude towards work
- Ability to listen to clients with patience and understanding
- Ability to maintain confidentiality where applicable
- Good IT and record keeping skills
- Ability to work within a Christian Ethos
Desirable Requirements:
- Understanding of support available locally, including from other agencies
- Experience of using digital reporting systems
- Knowledge of current Homeless Legislation and Guidance
