Overview
The Regional Math Instructional Coach reports to the Director of Teaching and Learning, and will also work closely with the AD of Teaching and Learning of Math to set direction. They will assist in the implementation of the KIPP SoCal secondary math approach, with a primary focus on driving student achievement outcomes in grades 5-8. All efforts driven by Instructional Coaches will be in service of an equitable, inclusive, rigorous, and diverse learning experience for all students.

Primary Responsibilities- Collaborate with the other Math Coaches, and the AD and Director of Teaching and Learning to create the enabling systems to realize the vision and drive quality math instructional practices with fidelity and precision
- Support 3-4 middle schools by: building the math content knowledge and coaching skills of leadership teams, directly leading content team meetings for teachers, engaging in the instructional coaching cycles with LT members, and a select group of teachers, and working with school teams to analyze data (primarily iReady and unit assessment data) to drive instructional decision making
- Implement KIPP SoCal teacher internalization practices into schools through professional development, content teams and coaching with leadership teams
- Lead any adaptation efforts of math curricula to better meet the needs of students (e.g. adjusting lessons / units per the gradual release of responsibility instructional framework).
- Monitor and lead the creation and adjustment of regional scopes and sequences for middle school math
- Monitor and lead the creation of regional formative and summative middle school math assessments
- Conduct observations and walkthroughs in collaboration with AD, Director of Teaching and Learning, CAO, and/or school site-level instructional leaders. Plan next steps and strategic plans to improve math instruction across schools.
- Lead the planning and delivery of regional professional development
- Plan and lead professional development at schools on an ad hoc or on-going basis based on individual schools’ needs in math content and instruction
- Collaborate with the Director of Teaching andLearning to craft a personalized professional learning plan (e.g. text study, workshops, conferences, school visits, etc.) to build knowledge and capacity in math teaching and learning instructional methods and practices
- In collaboration with the Director and AD of Teaching and Learning, execute on regional strategic math plans across schools
Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree (required)
- 4-5 years of teaching related experience, preferably in schools with demographics similar to KIPP SoCal, and with evidence of student mastery and growth that outperform district/state averages in all or most student groups
- At least 1 year of experience of driving student results and growth through school leadership team members, and at least 2 years of experience coaching teachers to achieve student results
- Deep experience with and knowledge best practice research methods for math instruction
- Deep experience with analyzing student assessment data and using data formatively to drive instructional decisions
- Experience driving outcomes for students of all skill levels
- Critical thinking skills and creativity in building strong systems and structures that support math instruction and student achievement
- Extensive experience designing and leading professional development and training sessions to a variety of teacher experience levels
- Excellent strategic planning and project management skills
- Experience leading teams to drive results
- A deep passion for social justice, anti-racism work, and equity for all children
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others and build relationships across teams and schools

Benefits & Compensation- KIPP SoCal Public Schools offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience in a similar position. The salary range for this position is $111,300 to $166,900. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint of $139,100 depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budget allocated for this role.
