PRODUCTION MANAGER

Department/Program Description: The Department of Music at Stanford is an academic department consisting of 16 Academic Council faculty, 61 lecturers, 12 Adjunct Professors, 3 Artists in Residence, 1 Visiting Artist, 50+ undergraduate majors and minors, 24+ Master’s students, and 35+ doctoral students. Stanford Music is also home to the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), the Center for Computer-Assisted Research in the Humanities (CCARH), and the Music Library and its Archive of Recorded Sound (ARS).
Position Summary: The Department of Music is seeking a Production Manager (PM) to partner with the department faculty and staff to achieve continued growth and preeminence in research and teaching.Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the PM will provide management oversight and direction for the productions of the Department including those involving departmental and non-departmental resources, buildings, budgets, and facilities, specifically Dinkelspiel Auditorium, but also other performance venues the Department uses or oversees.As the partner to the DFO, the PM occupies a critical leadership position, ensuring the smooth operation of the critical production needs of the Department.The PM also makes recommendations to the DFO for the budgeting, maintenance, and other needs of the Department’s production function.
As the production head for the Department, the PM provides leadership and direction for all production activities, including recommended budgeting, billing, scheduling, and oversight of overhires for the approximately 180 concert events the Department puts on each year.In addition, the PM oversees all aspects of Dinkelspiel Auditorium, include hiring and overseeing staff as needed.The PM has two direct reports who support aspects of production, including interfacing with Stanford Live and the Bing Concert Hall, Memorial Church, and the creation and editing of the archival recordings and livestreams the Department creates of its concerts.
This is a 100% FTE, continuing, exempt position. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need.

CORE DUTIES:
- Serve as project manager of multiple activities, scope out project tasks/team assignments and guide team to create work plans and schedules, monitor progress, and meet milestones.
- Oversee the management of event teams and/or production consultants to produce quality, multi-faceted events and productions.
- Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external university partners.
- Act as department representative at cross-departmental project meetings. Maintain clear lines of communication with staff/faculty about current projects.
- Operate as account manager on deliverables, program metrics, and status reports.
- Recommend and schedule events into appropriate off-campus and on-campus venues. Update 25Live for Non-Academic Events, Requests, and Holds in Dinkelspiel and Campbell for all users
- Process event requests and add to departmental calendar, confirming requests and resolving any conflicts, including preparing cost estimates for events.
- Assess and troubleshoot Audio/Visual systems and needs in classroom spaces, both in Braun Music Center and Dinkelspiel Auditorium.
- Serve as Production Manager for DoM special events taking place on campus.
- Serve as the Livestream Manager, maintaining livestream requests and coordinating with other departmental staff
- Hire and oversee support staff, students and contingent event staff. Oversee the staffing of events and serving as lead technician in our spaces. Coordinate additional vendors, equipment, and labor as needed.
- Train and supervise junior event planners in proper execution and implementation of events.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent communication, time management, and customer service skills. Must be well organized and detailed oriented.
- Superior project and event management skills.
- Ability to manage a diverse team of staff and contingent labor, holding them to deadlines and the highest quality output.
- Demonstrated experience with financial management of complex event budgets requiring excellent analytical skills.
- Extreme attention to detail and deadlines; ability to prioritize and manage complex workflows.
- Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.
- Demonstrated high level of confidence in independently making strategic decisions, good judgment, and innovative and creative problem solving skills.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
- Valid Non-Commercial Class-C California Driver's License.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience in Music, Performance, Production, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution.
- Strong expertise in business and management, computer applications, and databases.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards and/or regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge in common production Audio, Video, and Lighting systems.
- Knowledge in Microsoft Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and Billing systems.
- Some knowledge of music, whether traditional Western music, popular music, and/or non-Western music, is beneficial to an understanding of the unique needs of faculty and students in the Department of Music.
- Familiarity with and/or expertise in the production of musical concerts.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
- Frequently stand/walk, sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, and use a telephone.
- Occasionally kneel/crawl, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, and grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 21-40 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position is $77,100 to $117,000 per annum.
