School/Unit description:
The Diversity and Access Office is a small, high-impact, unit within the Office of Institutional Equity & Access that oversees compliance with respect to disability and certain non-discrimination related regulations. Position Summary:
This position reports to the Director and provides technical support in the various compliance related areas the office oversees. The incumbent will also assist with multiple projects designed to streamline the office’s programs, document its role, and generally enhance efficiency.
In this role, you will:
- Enhance compliance management systems by developing replicable programs to allow efficient compliance report processing.
- Create compliance policy and plan documents, including system and information management programs.
- Compile grant, state, and federal compliance reports and analysis, including those related to diversity and demographic information.
- Prepare and execute assessments and investigations in close collaboration with program managers in accordance with recognized standards.
- Consult and advise university staff on best practices and the handling of complex and sensitive information; develop, deliver and implement education and training.
- Conduct periodic follow-up reviews to assess and report on progress or completion of management’s corrective actions in response to observations and recommendations.
- Conduct investigations of suspected compliance and privacy violations of law and policy in conjunction with other audit/investigation staff and university resources.
- Contribute to developing annual work plan.
- Prepare and review work paper documentation to ensure it supports conclusions and results based on appropriate analyses and evaluations.
- Communicate the results of compliance/privacy projects via written reports and oral presentations to management.
- Participate as part of a project team on compliance/privacy related topics.
- Monitor current compliance/privacy trends, legislation and activities, assist to implementing best practices.
- Develop and maintain productive customer and staff relationships.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and four years of audit, privacy, compliance or other relevant experience in higher education, health care, research-based non-profit organizations, or government contracting or combination of education and relevant experience.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Broad knowledge of federal, state, and local laws regarding non-discrimination, affirmative action, equal employment opportunity and accessibility for individuals with disabilities. Specific experience working with the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Equal Opportunity laws, rules, and regulations, and federal and state discrimination law desired.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
- Experience in Higher Education.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment while simultaneously striking a balance between consistency and, where appropriate, flexibility.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills with demonstrated ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Experience in the investigation and resolution of complaints alleging discrimination.
- Excellent time management skills – the ability to advance multiple projects at the same time.
- Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to people from diverse backgrounds and with diverse identities.
