This is a three-year, fixed-term position with the possibility for extension. The position is posted at the Librarian 2 and 3 level. The role requires being onsite on the historic Stanford University campus.
Stanford Libraries is seeking a full-time Scholarly Communications Librarian to join the Office of Scholarly Communications. This position will provide key services that support the research and publishing activity of Stanford University. The Scholarly Communications Librarian will serve as the primary point of contact for scholarly communication issues, assisting Stanford researchers in navigating publishing and open access decisions, copyright and licensing concerns, and funder access requirements (including evolving needs for open and reproducible research in many disciplines). They will conduct outreach and create documentation and training that raises awareness of open access and Stanford’s Open Access Policy, deepens campus understanding of the scholarly publishing landscape, and promotes opportunities for Stanford researchers to maximize the reach and impact of their work. They will serve as a source of scholarly communication expertise for library colleagues and engage deeply in relevant cross-library projects, including the development and enhancement of tools, platforms, and workflows that support the dissemination of Stanford research.

The Scholarly Communications Librarian will be a member of the Office of Scholarly Communications, reporting to the Office’s Director, and will enjoy a unique opportunity to collaboratively shape an emerging service area at Stanford Libraries.
Core Duties*:
- Develops and implements an outreach and education program on scholarly communication topics, including open access, publishing models, copyright, funder sharing mandates, scholarly identifiers, and research impact.
- Creates and maintains information resources on scholarly communication topics.
- Provides consultation services on scholarly communication issues to Stanford faculty, staff, and students.
- Provides training on the use of scholarly communication-related tools and platforms.
- Collaborates with staff across the libraries on scholarly communications-related projects and services, including but not limited to:
- Deposit of publications, data, and other scholarly materials to the Stanford Digital Repository
- Development of Stanford Digital Repository features and workflows
- Digital skills training initiatives relevant to open scholarship
- Awareness and adoption of scholarly identifiers, such as ORCID iDs, DOIs, etc.
- Monitors trends and developments relevant to scholarly publishing, open access, and data sharing.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
To qualify at a Librarian 2 level:
Education and Experience:
● Advanced Degree in Library Science or a relevant academic discipline with demonstrated understanding of academic libraries, scholarly research and/or publishing and two or more years of relevant experience in a relevant library setting or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience with relevant aspects of library operations and scholarly research and/or publishing, including understanding of contemporary practices, trends and emerging technologies.
- Demonstrated understanding of the broad scope of library operations and scholarly research and/or publishing with ability to understand how their role interacts with the rest of the organization.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and negotiate issues with people from different parts of the library and university.
- Ability to identify challenges and opportunities, engage others in their resolution and recommend appropriate courses of action.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate online resources in terms of content quality, functionality and user interface issues.
- Ability to independently perform complex job functions such as collection management reviews, preparation of major exhibits, developing policies for business practices.
- Consistent display of strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated bibliographic expertise or basic managerial/supervisory skills.
To qualify at a Librarian 3 level:
Education and Experience:
● Advanced Degree in Library Science or a relevant academic discipline with demonstrated understanding of academic libraries, research, and/or scholarly publishing and five years of experience in a relevant library, research, and/or publishing setting with evidence of capacity to work at a high level of responsibility or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
● Deep understanding and engagement with the range of library, research and/or publishing operations, trends and practices.
● Evidence of professional contribution and achievement beyond the library may be expected at this rank.
● Demonstrated ability to engage with colleagues across the university and beyond in a collaborative and constructive fashion.
● Ability to manage projects, develop policies or drive library initiatives across functional lines.
