The Role
Portland’s International team is looking for a Consultant (Account Manager equivalent) to work on clients across ESG, Global Development and Philanthropy. The Consultant will be required to carry out the following key tasks within the International team:
- Leading on the day-to-day delivery of our communications programmes – including managing the tasks and workload of junior members of the team, updating the management team and the clients on progress and ensuring deadlines are met
- Helping build integrated communications & advocacy plans for our clients, including support in defining our strategic approach
- Supporting account leads to develop messaging for our clients
- Tracking development issues in the media and at policy level and making proactive recommendations for our clients
- Conducting engagement activities on behalf of our clients through various channels (digital, traditional media, events etc.)
- Overseeing global media activities, including sell-ins, preparing journalist biographies and briefing notes for clients, and managing press briefings
- Drafting content including press releases, opinion pieces, website copy, and social media posts
- Overseeing research and analysis to inform client strategies, including digital, media, and policy audits
- Supporting with new business and the growth of our offer, including writing proposals, pitching, and contributing to marketing activities
Required skillset
- A minimum of 3/4 years of agency experience is required for this role
- Working knowledge of English AND French is essential
- Experience of international development, global health or sustainability, working with the United Nations, foundations, think tank or governments
- Strong background in policy, communications, media relations and digital campaigning
- Experience managing clients/accounts is essential
- Experience of team/personnel management is desirable
- Previous campaigning experience in emerging markets, including in Africa, would be beneficial
- Demonstrable expertise in developing creative and insight-led communication campaigns
