What You’ll Be Doing
Prospect Triage and Research
In your role, you'll be responsible for fielding, assessing, and investigating prospects to support faculty projects, university needs, and development officer inquiries. Your primary task will be to conduct thorough research on prospects and donors, utilizing various sources, including internal resources, paid databases, internet searches, and more. This comprehensive research will involve analyzing wealth, interests, connections, and past interactions with OHSU and the OHSU Foundation.
Prospect Identification and Management
You'll provide tailored research and information to assist in prospect identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, aligning with OHSU priorities and strengths. Your expertise will be essential in assessing research requirements and delivering the appropriate level of research support, whether it's wealth screening, basic research, comprehensive analysis, or customized research, depending on the cultivation stage.
Your strategic thinking will come into play as you develop strategies to create and sustain a dynamic prospect pool. You'll proactively seek new principal and major gift prospects through data mining and innovative methods, collaborating closely with development staff to stay informed about fundraising initiatives and adjust prospecting efforts accordingly.

Skills and Competencies:
- You demonstrate a clear understanding of development and major gifts fundraising and its role in supporting development efforts through research and prospect management.
- Your research skills are advanced, involving in-depth knowledge and extensive use of online reference and information systems, libraries, data screening products, and other reference materials and tools. You have mastered the analysis of foundation financial data and SEC data.
- You exhibit expertise in collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating information, with the ability to synthesize complex data from multiple sources to provide informed guidance.
- You have a grasp of various screening strategies and methodologies, including data mining, segmentation, and analytics.
- Your interpersonal skills are strong, along with cultural competency, enabling professional, diplomatic, and productive collaboration with diverse colleagues and contacts, including development officers.
- You have excellent judgement; you recognize when to take the lead and when to step back and seek further clarification.
- You possess strong written communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- You excel at prioritizing tasks and consistently meeting deadlines.
Experience
- Experience with major- and principal-gift level strategy development, research, and prospecting
- 2+ years in a development research office or related experience, preferably in healthcare, higher education or complex non-profit environment
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in Business, MLS, or Information Technologies preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience working in a relational database
Preferred Experience
- 4+ years in a development research office or related experience, preferably in healthcare, higher education or complex non-profit environment
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce Affinaquest
- Experience with prospect research resources such as DonorSearch, Relationship Science, Lexis-Nexis, Candid (Foundation Directory Online and Guidestar), and Blackbaud Giving

Pay and Benefits
Salary is dependent on experience. Each salary band is broken into three "steps," which correspond with an employee’s experience/tenure, proficiency and performance in that specific role. New employees will typically start at step I of our pay band to allow for later growth, although more experienced candidates may be eligible to start at step II or III. The OHSU Foundation has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.
